I just had to quote this cuz it's amazing, haha.

When I originally posted in this thread the only thing I posted was "Mirrorcle World"... I forgot about the thread but I really should add some of the others that disappointed me.

1) Born To Be... - I wasn't nuts about this song back in the day but it's grown on me over the last couple of years in a MAJOR way. But this... this is literally the only video Ayu's ever done that I consider to be a mistake. Others on this list may not be to my taste, but this one is the only one where I thought "This can't POSSIBLY be what they intended." The back lighting reeks of "we were trying to do the thing in Mika Nakashima's Yuki No Hana video but didn't know how." Which upsets me because Ayu's dress is gorgeous - at least I THINK it is, cuz you can't see it! The segment of Ayu & the others talking makes NO sense without someone explaining "This was a theme song for the olympics and at this part, she and the kids are talking about their dreams" because the video only has the song playing through there, the audio of them talking is mixed out. On top of it, that scene is the only part that looks like that - there's nothing to offset it, it sticks out like a sore thumb for the rest of the video. And the half-naked dude dancing in front of the lights, thanks to the back lighting, he actually looks naked, but even if his body were visible it would still be off-putting. I just... nothing about this video worked. I feel like if I were involved in the making of this video at all I'd be really really upset because it's very likely you couldn't see or hear my contribution to it.

2) BRILLANTE - speaking of male bodies making me uncomfortable. When they're just standing around it's off-putting enough, but when they're all this giant mass climbing up to grab at Ayu it's even worse. I don't think I've watched this video more than twice just because of how uncomfortable it makes me. I think I have a thing about muscular male bodies being unsettling to me lol... Traumatized by seeing chippendale dancers on TV talk shows as a child, perhaps? XD

3) Angel - geez. I was actually mostly okay with the whole "Curtain call"-esque segment, and the dancers coming in didn't seem all that out of place for me. But then the CG wings at the end.... x_x They were SO cheap, they clearly weren't programmed to occupy 3D space - Dancers are behind Ayu but their wings are in front of her, and it just looks SO terrible. I can't even say "it looks so fake" cuz at least that would fit in with the theme of the video - like, it's legitimately BADLY DONE. The most BASIC principles of 3D animation aren't obeyed here. It's a wreck. Also, more should ahve been done stylistically to make you say "Ayu's wings are not real, the dancers' wings are" outside of the color and the visible harness (which, honestly, they should have zoomed out on so it was more noticeable & obviously there on purpose). Like theirs should have been insanely detailed, and they should have been directed not to do any flips because that makes THEIR harnesses too obviously present... x_x

4) Lelio - I ADORE this song. But the video fell so entirely flat. The "calling" dance move needs to freaking die (HOW COULD YOU BRING THAT MOVE INTO LIVE PERFORMANCES, AYU!?!?! NOOOOOO), and the glitter hoodie with bare midriff may possibly be the most un-ayu thing she's ever worn - she comes across as just unbearably phony through most of this video, she is clearly trying WAY too hard to have a "cool dance video." I liked the flat-color flash-animation visual style of the video though, honestly, which I know wasn't to the taste of many people here... to me that was the only thing the video did right.

I don't actually like XOXO so I won't go into that video being a disappointment, but it was about 90% ineffective.

5) progress - I freaking love this song, I think it rocks and it's epic and I love the time change. But if there's one thing I HATE about any kind of visual piece - whether it's a moving image or a still one - it's when I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at. SOMETHING needs to be guiding my eye at all times, and this has NOTHING of the sort. It's just like... noise. It's picture noise blowing past me, and I get the point after about 15 seconds of it. There's no reason for it to go the length of the entire video. Also, Ayu in the intro & Ayu at the end are too stylistically different so there's nothing tying them together. They're both one-off Ayus. Ayu has a ton of videos that do that and it's like "wtf why??" like the sparkly close-up Ayu in the "Rule" video, but it bothers me here especially just cuz the rest of the video didn't work.
