Adele I would definitely class as a singer/songwriter because the bulk of her work is singing and writing her own songs. Utada Hikaru I would class as a musician because she writes her own music, songs, and sings.
Ayu and Koda Kumi I think would fall into the singer/songwriter category, as well as the performer category because of the way they deliver their lives.
Namie I would class as a singer/recording artist/performer. She has written a song or 2 in the past but its not her m.o. She is more of a recording artist as she doesn't really have much to do with production other than singing the songs. She has a team that does her producing for her. Many singers work this way and its not a fault.
