I read one of the supposed tweets on Yahoo News and it was basically like... "What's wrong Ayu? Are you divorcing your American husband?"--and this really bothered me. On the surface it just seems like an innocent question. And perhaps to the person they meant no harm.
But the fact that this person/fan included American, as opposed to just husband, was really off putting to me. As if an "American" husband is any different than just a husband (i.e. Japanese man).
It's another case of us (the Japanese) versus others.
I also saw a comment on the news article that was calling Ayu out for yet another example of a year-end scandal/news worthy event that she tends to have.
