Hey! Say! JUMP's Inoo Kei to make film debut in Peach Girl adaptation

Hey! Say! JUMP member Inoo Kei and up-and-coming actress Yamamoto Mizuki have been cast in the live-action film adaptation of Ueda Miwa's shojo manga Peach Girl. The film will mark Inoo's silver-screen debut and the first leading role in a romantic feature for Yamamoto, following appearances in films like The Kirishima Thing, Black Butler and Sadako vs. Kayako.
Serialised from 1997 to 2004, Peach Girl revolves around high school student Adachi Momo who is often misunderstood because of her tan skin and dyed red hair. She has only one friend, Sae, who turns out to be the very person spreading unsavoury rumours about her around school. Momo has a crush on classmate Toji, but their relationship hits rough waters due to Sae's sabotage and the appearance of easygoing playboy Kairi who also likes Momo. Inoo will play the role of Kairi in the film.
Peach Girl was previously adapted into a Taiwan idol drama starring Vanness Wu, Annie Wu and Kenji Wu in 2002, and an anime series in 2005. The film will be directed by One Hitoshi, who adapted Bakuman to great success last year, and scripted by Yamaoka Junpei (Kamen Teacher).
Peach Girl begins shooting in late March/early April and is slated for a 2017 release.
