I translated Heide and it was damn hard for me, because I spend a lot of time interpreting rather than translating to figure out what Tatsuro actually meant. Be aware that I’m no Tenshi no Hane, but I did my best. Furthermore, I asked a friend who is half German and half Japanese, and therefore grew up bilingual, if she could check my German translation. She was pretty satisfied and if she wasn’t just trying to not hurt my feelings, it should be alright. But she also wasn’t exactly sure what’s the point he wanted to get across sometimes. Since I’m no native English speaker I guess my German translation is more accurate than my English one, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
And because I spend so much time on interpreting, I will add that one too. Maybe we can discuss it? =)
Furthermore, I also translated Kanashimi to DANCE wo, I found it easier to translate and I find it interesting that in both songs a flower plays such an important part.

Heide
Spoiler:

Heather

Tomorrow, I wonder, will the world shine through a smile?
Tomorrow, I wonder, will the world drown through tears?

The whole time you were dreaming within a birdcage

You never were able to get along well in the world, which is why your sigh was increasing
And let it arrive someday, the paper plane which you were letting fly

Surely you were dreaming of the end of the sky

Tonight the shooting stars are dancing blues
Softly turning sadness into a bouquet of flowers

Tomorrow, I guess, the world will shine through a smile
Tomorrow, I guess, the world will drown through tears

If suddenly the cheek gently stroking wind blows through

Heather

True words, true voice, true feelings, true self
What exists there is just the two-parted world in “the self” and “everything else”
To constantly reject to make a step as well as to enter something was surely just because of the desired peace of mind and to say that everything was “alright”

Now I spread my wings, in the midst of the sky and the wind

Tonight the shooting stars are dancing blues
Everywhere in the world they are singing this song

Softly I lay a bouquet of flowers into your hands

German translation:

Heide

Heide interpretation
Spoiler:

While reading the translation and interpretation, keep in mind that heather means solitude in flower language! Furthermore, keep in mind that my translation maybe isn’t accurate because I was interpreting it differently from what Tatsuro had in mind, especially when it comes to if the lyrical self is talking about another person or about/to themselves.
I listened to the song now a hundred times while translating and after some time a specific scenery was coming to my mind whenever I listened to that song. I always imagine someone standing by night in a raw countryside surrounded by heathers. The person now is asking themselves what kind of day tomorrow will be. Will it be a happy day or a sad day? The person is looking back at their life, realising that they always had dreams but that they were always limiting themselves in some way or another and therefore were kind of sad and unsatisfied with their life.
I think the person is actually talking to themselves, so that there is a distance between the person and their “true self”, as if the person really would be talking to somebody else. But somehow in this moment the person gains some courage, they realise that of course there will be happiness as well as sadness tomorrow, that it’s inevitable that there will be both. And so the shooting star transforms the sadness into something beautiful, because without sadness there won’t be happiness.
Suddenly a mild wind rises and while the person is standing there, surrounded by heathers (that’s when they sing “Heide”) everything becomes clear, they reapproach with themselves and understand why they were hesitating to really live their life. They were trying to protect themselves from the world but this also made the person unhappy. But in order to understand all this they needed to be at this (metaphorical) place all alone and just for themselves to be able to reflect their life.
Now that the person was able to understand all of this, they kind of become the (also metaphorical) paper plane they remembered at the beginning and start to fly on their own and break free from the cage. The person flies high up to the sky to the shooting stars and hands over a bouquet of flowers (made of the sadness that was turned into something beautiful) to the next person who’s struggling.

Kanashimi to DANCE wo
Spoiler:

Dance with the sadness

The world, which was overflowing with sadness, is so dazzling

The summer grass of the sea rocks the heart
And the heartbeat of the boy is excited
The dreamed of future flickers each time

It’s such a dazzling, with sadness overflown world
Go and break through it!
Dance in the sun as much as you can
You’re getting dirty and you’re crying and your heart is wavering
Because you’re here at this time at this place

The afterglow of that evening has burnt into the eyelids
The goodbye delayed, at the corner a red spider lily*
Under the twinkling stars, come on, dance!

Dance in the dark and stir up
The pain as well as the suffering and the sadness
Shrug off everything with a laugh
It’s so suffocating, from the deep darkness you will be wrapped in the world
In the midst of the rain clouds

Dancing In The
Sun
Dark
Ark
World
Rain
Pain

The words kill the eyeball of the rotted god
By the poison of the red flower writhing in pain, dance!

With every flicker the heart breaks, ahh, so much

In this momentary, in sadness drowned world
We are loving so much
Everyone, dance in the world
You’re getting dirty and you’re crying and your heart is dancing
Because you’re existing at this time at this place

*In Chinese as well as Japanese Buddhist schools the red spider lily is growing in the abyss to lead the dead the way to their next incarnation. In Japanese the spider lily is also known as higanbana 彼岸花 (Miya uses the word manjushage 曼珠沙華, which is more connected to Buddhism), which is a combination of the words for nirvana and flower and they are often used for funerals.
Furthermore, rice farmers plant the flowers by their fields, because the red spider lily belongs to the amaryllis family and therefore their bulbs are toxic. For that reason, they are planted to keep away moles, mouses and other animals which dig holes and the flowers were (are) also growing at graveyards.
One of many legend says that they grow at waysides were people met who will never meet again.

Dancing In The
Sun
Dark
Ark
World
Rain
Pain
