Cheating is "accepted" as much as it was "accepted" in America in the 50s and 60s. (And before, really)
It's a very patriarchal society--women don't have as much support and, as many become housewives after marriage, divorce can be extremely difficult with no job to support themselves and little legal help or access to financial aid. It's "accepted" because otherwise they'd be on their own, poor, and their children would most likely go with the father as he would be able to support them.
Then they'd be branded as a divorced woman and basically become damaged goods.
