During their first years AKB48's lyrics were one of their differentiating factors from other girl idol groups. Many of their early singles and stage songs are about deep controversial topics such as suicide, sex, bullying, etc. After they started to become more popular and mainstream, those topics were less common.
It's pretty clear they don't sell millions because of their lyrics but you can definitely find good lyrics in 48-46 discography.
