Plot twist! Ayu never went to the desert and it was all photographed in a studio.
I'm guessing that desert is just a background that she is standing in front of. I assume we will find out when we know what the photo is being used for and get more information.
And I also didn't realize that Ayu was at a restaurant, I thought she was working on something.
