Hikaru Utada Laughter In The Dark Tour 2018
Yokohama Arena, November 6th 2018

Notes/Thoughts:

• First song was “Anata.” She rose silently from the stage, more silence, then into the first line.
• Overall presentation was outstanding. Two large screens on the left and right, along with a massive screen behind her and the band. Several platforms on the stage that allowed for more lights/screens.
• Really really great arrangements. Standouts included “COLORS,” “Prisoner Of Love” and “Hikari”
• Definitely felt the first day nerves. She seemed a bit hesitant the first few songs, but got into it a few songs in.
• “Face My Fears” was a no show.
• Dancer Fukiko Takase (“Forevermore” MV choreographer) joined her onstage for “Tomodachi” and “Too Proud”
• “Too Proud” was a standout, Hikaru even joined Fukiko in a bit of a dance for parts of the song, and Jevon’s entire rap was replaced with a brand new original section including Hikaru rapping for the very first time.
• A central stage was used for several songs, (“Chikai,” “Manatsu no Tooriame,” and “Hanataba wo Kimini”
• She followed “First Love” with “Hatsukoi” (she messed up the first line of the later)
• Final song for the main part of the concert was “Play A Love Song”
• Encore was “Ore no Kanojo”(!!), “Automatic,” and closed the whole show with “Goodbye Happiness”
• Other tracks included : “Michi,” “Kiss & Cry,” “Forevermore,” “traveling”
• During the first costume change, a rather long prerecorded short film was included featuring Japanese writer Naoki Matayoshi. Truth be told, felt way too long and derailed the energy/momentum of the first section.
• Overall, very pleased with the show. Looking forward to seeing it filmed and presented!
