CINEMATIC is out! Thoughts?
I think this is one of BENI's better albums. It has an interesting concept and direction and some really good material. On the first listen, I loved the title track, MONEY, Got a Feeling, and PULLBACK, and liked the rest of the songs quite well too. Some miscellaneous (less than positive) thoughts:
- I really want to love Chasin', but I can't bring myself to do it... The chorus is so nice, but I can't get over how weird the pre-chorus feels. It's still a nice song, but I wish it was all as good as its best parts.
- Arigato is the weakest song on the album. Somehow, BENI sounds... kinda bad on the chorus.
- The swearing in No one else like you is SO JARRING. BENI sounds really good with the acoustic guitar accompaniment but the swearing seriously shatters the mood, and I feel like she doesn't have the best chemistry with Michael Kaneko.
