Colours for the most part feels very, empty? It’s like void of something. You could easily forget it’s an ayu album, or the works of ayu. Her presence isn’t as strong or asserted. It’s mute of her traditional persona in a way, so unfamiliar. Because of that, it feels quite sad. It’s like losing a good friend - they go on living their life, but you can no longer relate or feel the relationship between you any longer. You’re merely a spectator, where as you once felt integrated somehow into the storyline itself. It lacks intimacy, and thus feels dishonest in a way. It doesn’t feel like she is speaking directly to you. It is a conversation in which I feel I cannot participate.
I guess to put it more simply, as opposed to other ayu albums, which when listening to I feel I am in company, when listening to Colours, I feel alone. It doesn’t captivate me, and thus I remain very aware of, and in tune with, my own reality and visual surroundings.
