I always feel a vague sense of visciousness from that "Why did you come to Japan" show. I don't actively watch it so I might be wrong but I only ever hear about it when they interview people like this. Mega fans, otaku, starry-eyed foreigners etc.
They often seem to pick foreigners and I see them get made fun of in expat communities and it just makes me feel sad for the people they interview.
Sure it's cringey but it feels kind of two-faced to spot-interview someone and they feel like a celebrity for a few minutes but it's just going to be aired in a "look at this weird gaijin, aren't they all sooooooo weird" context... I don't know if I'd run away or accept an interview if they came up to me lol He just seems like a big fan to me.
