This is one area where Japan has been, and continues to be, a bit backwards. The market is saturated with gizmos and gadgets and pills to lose weight, or slim your calves, or this or that. Ku is a product of that environment for sure.
So let's stop trying to make excuses for her or infer what she means by doing this. From a Western perspective the things she is saying are sad and irresponsible, but she is a Japanese artist in Japan doing something that is very normal there. It's totally fine for those of us outside of Japan to call it out as toxic and hope that Japan may one day move in a healthier direction.
