i think it's mainly because there aren't as many choices for mp3 players in north ameirca ..
in asia there are tons of mp3 players now .. and they're getting cheaper and cheaper .. besides the traditional iPOD .. even JNC has 1 GB (or more) mp3 players now ..
besides .. for most mp3 players you can just hang it around your neck and it's much lighter than MD players ... while CD players can hardly fit in pockets ...
