Emo is a name that's given to a lot of whiny bands these days. It's pretty much a swear word to people. Emo kids are supposed to be guys and gals that wear shirts that are too small, pants that are too tight, while crying all day and writing sad poetry.
In reality, this music's not even emo. There's a detailed page on emo to find on the net, just google emo and it should come up. Emo used to be quite extreme music, similar to hardcore and grindcore. These days, bands that are considered emo are, among others, Thursday, Envy, Taking Back Sunday, Coheed & Cambria, Thrice, and others. It's basically a form of hardcore that's more melodic. Often similarities with indie rock and hardcore can be found.
I personally like a lot of emo, like Embrace, Envy, Thursday, and Mohinder.
