I don't feel Avex is a bad company, per se. But the question was "What's wrong with Avex?". What I feel is wrong with them is their whole attitude toward the business. Entertainment isn't about money, it's about "the craft" (as much as I hate using that term, it is valid here). I have a very old-fashioned point of view as to how showbusiness should be handled, as most people in showbusiness will. It's when the suits exploit their artists (i.e. by favoring the moneymakers instead of nurturing the talent) and patrons (i.e. with all the multiple-choice releases) that really crumbles the cookies.

Toshiba-EMI is the same. Hell, they gave me a fake phone number to call when I went to see them. So Avex is not really any different from any record label these days. I mean, they all have their little differences, otherwise artists wouldn't be able to choose one over the other or vice versa. But from a business standpoint, they're just another major corporation. That doesn't make them likeable, though. And I know they don't need to be likeable to be a successful company. I mean, I think they're despicable and I have little respect for their impersonal tactics; but still I want to work for them because of the abilities they have. They're a strong company, no one can take that away from them.
