On the 56th NHK Kohaku Utagassen (the Red and White Year-End Song Festival)

This year’s NHK Kohaku Utagassen will air from 7:20 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 31. In addition to the usual panel of guest judges, 10,000 mobile-phone users from across the country will be appointed as jurors for the first time. Guests and mobile-phone users will both have one vote each. Ten mobile-phone jurors and ten digital TV jurors will be invited to the show in NHK Hall as representatives from different regions of Japan.
A number of related programs will be aired prior to NHK Kohaku Utagassen.
BS Debate (October 30, 10:10 p.m. on BS-1) will discuss the future of NHK Kohaku Utagassen. Six prominent people will share their thoughts straightforwardly on this long-standing annual music show.
