Looks like this thread is dying out... well i hav been following this thread for quite some time and i am quite surprised that i managed to refrain myself from posting until now...
many people hav been debating bout whether ayu is going downhill bcos they might not like her newer songs but do you all know that her songs actually reflects her thoughts and emotions. what is so special about ayu in the first place is bcos she wrote the lyrics to all her songs and she pens her thoughts into the lyrics... i really encourage people to go find out exactly what she is singing about...
from her first album, a song for xx, to her latest album, (miss)understood, it has been around 8 years. during this time, ayu had grown from a 20 yr old girl, to a 28 yr old woman. so therefore her thoughts and emotions now would not hav been the same as the years before. take for example her very first album a song for xx, which was released when she was 20. in that album she sang about her teenage years, about the uncertainties she faced as well as how lost she was. she also sang about her only good friend in her teenage years as well as her strained relationship with her mother. those were the issues that she faced at that time and she sang them in her songs. but now, roughly 8 years later, she has grown and matured... her emotions and thoughts now as a 28yr old would not have been the same as before, and i think this maturity can really be found in some of her newer songs like born to be, bold & delicious and pride...
this gradual change in her songs are inevitable as ayu goes through the different stages of her life. however being a teenager myself, i must admit that her earlier songs touched me more. this is propably bcos they made me go "hey, thats exactly how i am feeling right now". somehow i jus feel that i can relate to the newer songs a lot less. but i still listen to them nonetheless and i continue to be a big fan of her. and i will remain one until the day she eventually retire.
(ps. i am listening to the album a song for xx as i am typing this post. it still sounds great to me even after so many years. if you don like her new songs, you can always listen back to the old ones. long live ayu!)
