I've been listening to the album for a couple of days and I'm more and more impressed. It's pretty amazing - the previews were a slight disappointment but now I love the album. Songs that seemed just OK the first time I listened to them ended up sounding far better the second and third time, etc., when I had an overall idea of what they were about and focused on the lyrics/emotion/details.

I really didn't expect it, but this isn't just a regular "very good" album (like Nelly's Loose and Utada's Ultra Blue this summer) that I can listen to multiple times and not grow bored with. I know I'll sound like a fangirl intent on hyping the album, but Back to Basics really has an emotional impact. Sure, there are sexy songs with explicit lyrics like Candyman and Nasty Naughty Boy, but I don't think Christina's ever felt the songs like this, whether she's singing about her love for her husband or her bad experiences in life. And Mercy on Me, wow. That song is made of awesome. For me, BTB proves that she's not just a technically talented singer; she's a more interesting artist than anyone else in her age group.

I have so much respect for Christina now. Even if this album doesn't sell well (though I hope it does!) or a lot of people dislike it, it'll be special to me.
