oricon ftl

HONESTLY I feel like oricon is becoming so useless. Look at the new number one, their first week is going to be like 25-30K. It's becoming so stupid and inaccurate.

I made a thread a while ago about comparing billboard and oricon, but now I can finally find the right words for it.

ORICON FTL.

I mean, I understand how physical sales used to dominate the market and really showcase who is on top, but look at billboard.
Billboard and evolved and grown with the economy so even now the number one can really be reflected in the nation. I can be sure that that song is probably the number one song right now. That's why billboard is going to stay and the strongest chart we can look at.

But oricon? I mean look how low it is. If ayu's single is really so popular according to digital sales, is it fair to rank it based on the physical ones alone? I mean Flavor of Life was number #2 yearly. But based on the digital sales it was probably a lot more popular than that song I had never heard of.

Billboard japan isn't even that accurate and even if they do put in digital sales (I'm not sure) I don't want them to take over because they don't have the history oricon does and they definitely aren't very accurate (in my opinion).

If oricon won't change their chart to reflect the economy and how songs are bought or listened to (that includes airplay too, but airplay in japan is useless '-___-!) then it's becoming really ridiculous and it's not fair because so many records have been established, so what now? They are all becoming sooo innaccurate that I fear even if ayu or whoever breaks or makes another record, it won't be a real accomplishment =/. Now that digital sales are showing a song's true colours, it's so foolish that oricon has remained this way for so long.

SO COME ON GUYS. COMPLAIN WITH ME LOL.

maybe overseas press should be counted toward oricon XDD..its still the same album/single/dvd but just different in price & region code

digital sales should be added into the oricon charts, so we can know how much a single/album REALLY sold..compared to just looking at it from physical sales only..(why is oricon so behind in technology???)

i know the billboard 200 gets their info from nielsen soundscan that gets cd sales from U.S & Canada

It's certainly accurate to sales, but probably not an accurate gauge of popularity since downloads aren't counted in single sales charts.

Oricon's accuracy isn't an issue here, it's whether or not it ranks songs by how popular they are. Oricon is accurate enough for what it is, which is a sales chart, not a popularity chart. The Billboard and Oricon charts have two different purposes.

And this should definitely be in one of the Music chat rooms as it has very little to do with Ayu, and it's certainly not news.

Digital sales definitely need to be added. It's flat out stupid at this point, for them to not count digital sales at all. It kills me to see physical sales literally pretty much dead, but that's how it is, and every single music chart in the world should be required to show the number of digital copies sold, in one way or another.

Also, especially for Japan (where non-Japanese presses are also extremely popular, in various countries across the globe), I believe they should definitely start counting other presses as well, like Ayuin brought up. From what I've seen, not many people here have ever bought a Japanese version CD, so thousands of sales are lost for every release of countless artists.

But I believe ORICON is accurate in what they do show.. I mean, it's thought that the the US Billboard may inflate or exaggerate sales, but I've never heard anything like that against ORICON. But then again, none of us can actually know for sure about any of the charts accuracy, probably, right?

Anyway.. I do understand if they don't ever lump in other presses in the charts, but it's ridiculous to leave out digital. As long as they start counting that, I'll respect ORICON (or whoever) much more. Just, there's no way to tell, like you said, the true sales or even popularity of artists on the Chart the way it is now. Physical and digital sales the past few years differ literally by hundreds of thousands, maybe even a million or more.

EDIT: SORRY
I'm not used to there being a celebrity news still LOL SORRY!

Could someone please move it? I'm not sure how, my apologies.

And I'm not saying oricon is completely innaccurate, but no one can deny it's becoming to gauge how popular a song is from physical sales alone! Everyone is noticing the impact of digital sales. I wonder if sunrise could have stayed #1 another week if digital sales had been included, for example?

I really find myself agreening with you, Max. I've been wondering the same. Oricon really sucks at times. They should combine digital and physical sales together. It would so much smarter and nicer to watch. It's not very nice to look at the poor physical sales. -.-

Or then Oricon could just give up on the physical sales and just count the digital ones. I personally think that combining both together would make charting and following it much more nicer. Or something.
