Proper tagging for last.fm?
I'm just curious about proper tagging for last.fm for a few Ayumi tracks.
The ones I'm wondering about are basically all of her concerts and lives that I have in mp3 form and also all of her piano songs, like from the Piano Instrumental Collections. I have a lot of these in iTunes that for example will just be tagged as "UNITE!" with the artist as Ayumi Hamasaki and the album as Piano Instrumental Collection - I am... Its the same for concert songs, so I might have the song UNITE! by Ayumi Hamasaki from the album Arena Tour 2006. But last.fm will treat both as the same song! So how do you guys tag your songs to prevent this?

Personally, I don't. I have OCD to an extent, but it's not that bad, haha. You could change your track title though. Like instead of just UNITE! you could put UNITE! (Live at Arena Tour 2002) or WHATEVER.

You could search for the track in the search bar. For example, type in "unite arena tour" and you'll get a few results for UNITE that people have already tagged and scrobbled. I would usually just name the song something like "UNITE! (live @ Arena Tour 2006)" and then make the album called "Live"
I usually will just delete scrobbles that aren't on a proper album though because things can get a little messy (and I have OCD) |

i'm pretty OCD about it too. it already annoys me that it automatically corrects ayumi hamasaki into Ayumi Hamasaki, but i'd rather have that than the correct Japanese, since I can't read it.

I just let them scrobble that way.
Unless it's an official Live track and has official tagging.

wait, are you tagging ayu as 浜崎あゆみ??

i'm tagging Ayu as ayumi hamasaki.
but it doesn't matter, because last.fm translates that into 浜崎あゆみ, although i selected to display names in english when possible, so i see Ayumi Hamasaki instead.

well, when last.fm translates the name, the track also changes at times, maybe that's why it tags the 2 songs as the same thing.

I don't X_X
But I guess you could just tag it as UNITE (Live @ AT06) or something like that...

so it seems like a lot of people just let the songs scrobble as the original album version even when they're actually live! i'm kind of shocked! i thought everyone here was super strict about their tagging for some reason!

I am a tag freak, so I don't let last.fm "fix" my tags because their tags are wrong most of the time :/ and I HAVE to tag ayu as 浜崎あゆみ lol

Usually, when I'm tagging live audios, it's kind of like this: "UNITE! (live from "ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2009 ~NEXT LEVEL~ A")"

Hah! I am so OCD about this.
I tag lives with the plain song title, and only the album name indicates I'm listening to a live track. As far as "special" tracks (piano instrumental, JPop Harmony, orgel, etc.), it depends on the situation. I tag the piano instrumentals as Ayu songs, but with (Piano Instrumental) at the end of each track name. ALL of my orgel tracks are tagged with a generic "Orgel Collection" as the artist. JPop Harmony songs are tagged with the orchestra names as the artists. e.g.: SCAR from PCDL is tagged as 浜崎あゆみ - SCAR, with Premium Countdown Live 2008-2009 as the album. SEASONS on orgel is tagged as Orgel Collection - SEASONS (浜崎あゆみ), with the original orgel album name (avex official, Crystal Melody, etc.) as the album. Daybreak from JPop Harmony is tagged as Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra - Daybreak ASFXX, piano instrumental version, is tagged as 浜崎あゆみ - A Song for ×× (Piano Instrumental), with Piano Instrumental Collection as the album. I put them as I see them on a cd or whatever
I could careless about tags pffft |

the official name for the "artist name" is ayumi hamasaki in kanji since it has the most scrobbled songs compared to "ayumi hamasaki" or "Ayumi Hamasaki"

I like the auto correct on last.fm. If I'm listening to a song that's "ayumi hamasaki - energize" it'll be like "oh! I've auto corrected it for you in your library, it now reads "浜崎あゆみ - EnergizE". haha I love it.
As for lives: studio album song: "浜崎あゆみ - NEXT LEVEL" concert live song: "浜崎あゆみ - NEXT LEVEL (Live @ Arena Tour 2010 A ~NEXT LEVEL~)"

Especially because it's really annoying for me to see a bunch of live versions of the same thing tagged 50 million ways on last fm. I like the autocorrect too...I've not had many instances where it was wrong ![]() And besides it's nice when, say, there's an accent on a song or something, that I forgot to put in.

I thought I wouldn't survive without the auto-tag but, I'm doing just fine without it
