Korean music recommendations?

Since many of you seem to enjoy K-Pop, I figured it's the best place to ask.
I have been watching Korean movies lately, and it made me want to discover some of their music.
I know who BoA is, and all those other boy/girl bands that have threads all over this place. I'm looking for something with more depth, and preferably someone who writes his/her own songs. Any genre will do

Well .. Is it okay if I recommend a group who has cool 'deep' songs in their albums and some of them write songs ? They're still idols though >< (hearted knows who I'm talking about I know ur side-eyeing me rn girl xD)
Ok I suck at recs XD

If not I recommend the solo album's of Brown Eyed Girls members, Narsha and Ga-In

I prefer the older Kpop of the 90s, the new stuff just doesn't really cut it. Hearted's recommendations are great. Some others you can check out are:

Drunken Tiger - one of the first successful Korean rap groups
Epik High - hiphop group
Tasha (T) - Korean female rapper, also the wife of Drunken Tiger's Tiger JK
Lena Park - AMAZING voice won't ever find one like that in Kpop
1tym - their older stuff was mostly pop and ballads but their last albums before Jin Hwan went to do military service had some depth to the lyrics
H.O.T. - again, their older stuff was pure pop but their 4th album Iyah! and 5th album Outside Castle had depth

Ok here it goes

Well I recommend SHINee .. Only abouuut .. 5 of their songs are written by members (Juliette, Up&Down, Obsession, Your Name, and Get It) .. But they're looking into writing/composing their own songs in the future , SM is giving them more freedom when it comes to the music .. Their songs have this different mature feel from other Korean boybands who are their age/debuted around the same time .. Here are a couple of songs ~

Spoiler:

(written by the main vocalist Jonghyun .. He's studying composing now too )

(written by my husband for me leader Onew)

Oh and Noura you forgot to mention O !

And like I said earlier, Ga-In and Narsha and their amazingness

Spoiler:

Enjoy !

If you like R&B and even if you don't i would most certainly give T (Tasha) a try she is one of the most underrated artists in Korea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY1PTDpysR4

Lee Soo Young also is a good artist though she doesn't release as much anymore; she used to do a lot of ballads

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glef1XK4rak

Brown eye girls are popular now due to their latest work but their older material was just as good if not better

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAwOyArpfRE

Shinhwa, once again are popular but older then the teeny boppers. I still find that i can go back to their material and not be let down.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvgYHciiUmo

Classiquai- completely underrated even if they are somewhat known.
the only group i know that can execute a calm feeling to a techno song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOW0fihERE0

W& Whale are a bit underground but the female singers voice is really powerful
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhovBL7D4bY

and finally (i'm surprised that no one mentioned her ) but J is a phenomenal artist (once again waning popularity (most likely because she's Korean-American
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqYyveq0dVA

Hope that helps

Totally, Memories is one of her best songs. Another great one is Convenience Store. Its actually a Drunken Tiger song featuring T, but her verse is epic.

A terrific Drunken Tiger song is I Hate Myself. This also features T (Tasha) but she mostly just does the chorus.

Omg how could I forget Lee Soo Young, her and Lena Park made my ballad tracklist of my middle school days. She had an album in 2006 which I herd was also really good but haven't listened yet. She actually got married last October so I think her career is on hold for now as she focus on her personal life.

Lol H.O.T are the pop kings of Kpop, them and DJ Doc (HOW COULD I FORGET THEM TOO). I loved Candy too, such a gay happy song . 1st album was great, but I say their best album was album 3 Resurrection. Hope, from album 3, is my all-time favorite H.O.T. song

Quality sucks but its just a miracle some people had some videos saved

H.O.T ended up splitting but Jong Woo, Tony An, and Lee Jae went to form JTL for a little while before they all went solo. Their two albums should also be in the best kpop collection.

^ ya know Hearted i'm not sure, its virtually impossible to find out what exactly she's up to these days because the spotlight is now on the newest or gimmick-esk acts. Lmao i really wish she would change her name though that would make it a heck of a lot easier to follow her work instead of getting the letter "J" show up as one of the letters of the English language when i do a Google search.
And yes Ifebaggins Miss, (T,Tasha Yoon mi rae what ever she wants to be known as) is truly a presence whether its live on her own album or being featured on someones song(you barely notice the main singer/rapper)
nice to know im not the only one listening to some of the older acts in Korea

Clazziquai Project <3 They're more...techno loungy chill music.

Another like them is Humming Urban Stereo.

I also love Yozoh~ She's more like...on the indie pop rock side.

J.ae is J. Don't know why she changed her name but I recommend her too. Her albums In Love and Crush of Love are my favorites.

Some others I can think about now are Dear Cloud, Peterpan Complex, Misty Blue, Biuret and maybe May Doni...?
