[2008] Ayu reactions at Staples Business Depot.

So I work at Staples Business Depot, I was at cash and we are advertising this big screen TV to be sold with 102 Dalmations playing to show it off. I then decided after seeing the movie 7 times that I should bring something in to play on the TV. so I brought in some ayumi goodies to play while people are being cashed out here are some reactions...

A BEST 2 dvds
During "evolution" some older woman was staring at the video with an evil look on her face of disapproval and during "JEWEL" some girl was watching and saying to her friend "this isn't english!". Another woman came by during "INSPIRE" with a confuzed look on her face and asked who she was.

ASIA TOUR 2007 ～Tour of Secret～
a group of teenagers we're cashing out and one guy was like "oh its miley cirus!" and continued to watch. I was amused and wondered how on earth he thought it was her. It was during "kiss o' kill"

COUNTDOWN LIVE 2007-2008
My manager walks by during "Ladies Night" and goes "Oh whats this? I don't reconize her"

ARENA TOUR 2006 ～(miss)understood～
During the hoping ayu interlude this girl was glued to the TV watching with amusement.

COUNTDOWN LIVE 2005-2006
A employee of mine was watching and claimed she knew ayu from somewhere. I told her that ayumi doesn't usually have dark brown hair.

...that miley cyrus comment is hilarious..do that guy need glasses? or a hearing aid? XD

hahah rofl interesting story, you should make a dvd mix of sexy jpop videos. They would be like OMG!! TILA TEQUILA!!! when they see Koda Kumi lol.

I think if you were able to sub the videos, or have a translation on standby near the TV, reactions would be totally different. I told my friends what the songs meant, and their attitude changed slightly (then again, my friends are adolescents). But if the actual meaning was there, I think many would change their opinions on her.

I don't think it'd change much. You need to be able to appreciate music for what it is before that...Americans have a bad habit of being ethnocentric especially went it comes to things like culture. Anything out of the norm is seen as awkward when judged against the "norm" in the U.S. Kudos to you for advertising Ayu in America.

but for ayu's pvs, some actually have meanings(though they don't always go with the pv story). it's still worth a try to burn those sub pvs and play them....

but i take my hat off you for playing ayu in US. unlike an asian country, playing/listening to foreigh langugues does not seem to be strongly accepted there.

It really isn't...blech. The closest you can get to being "accepted" is Spanish. Anything else is seen as "weird", especially Asian languages.

I have a friend who works at a Game Stop (she's actually a member here but never posts) and she says she plays J-PVs there all the time for fun, haha.

I applaud you for using the word ethnocentric, since I didn't think there was anyone else who knew that word. XD

Anyways, this is awesome!! Please keep posting more! I would have loved to try something like this when I was in retail.
