Movie Scores

Hello!

As much as I love Her Highness Ayu, there is another genre of music I am willing to die for. Yes, I absolutely love movie scores like those composed by John Powell. The intricate layers of instruments in his scores fascinate me. Do you guys know some other scores/scorers/movies with stunning bg music that you want to recommend? I will be very thankful.

One of the best movie scores for me:

I love movie score as well the way I love game music so much!

Lately I've been listening to Hugo, Life of Pi and Rise of the Guardian music scores. My all time favorite would be Paperman! So mesmerizing and beautiful

I wish they release the score for The Great Gatsby

Paperman is TREMENDOUS! o.m.g. Greatest song for a film ever.

This is a personal favorite of mine from "A Tale of Two Sisters." Within the context of the movie, this song was beautiful as hell. Makes me sad all the time because the movie was absolutely heart-breaking.

Love movie scores! You can't go wrong with John Williams' score to Jurassic Park.

YES! I discovered that listening to How To Train Your Dragon and Brave's soundtrack while I work (which mostly involves typing on the computer) makes it feel more exciting than ever. I'm currently listening to Solanin and Mary & Max's soundtrack at the moment because I'm writing a script and this particular song just really fits the feel of the story that I'm going for. It's Perpetuum Mobile by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. SO AMAZING. Although apparently technically it's not a movie score since it's been used in other movies as well.

I love movie scores. Some of the ones already mentioned are amongst my favourites.

Call me unoriginal, but my favourite movie score to listen to is The Lord of the Rings - The Complete Recordings. I have all three albums for each movie on my iTunes and it's amazing.

I am a big fan of Cliff Martinez' Solaris. It really captured the sound of the movie. And if that's your thing, you can listen also to the work Ben Frost & Daníel Bjarnason did by request of the old version of the movie, also called Sólaris. It's equally gorgeous, but captures a more cold approach to it. It's brilliant.

I also like Max Richter's scores for several movies. La Prima Linea and Disconnected come to mind now

John Murphy's Sunshine is also another score I am so in love with. You need to check it out! <3

Memoirs of a Geisha is flawless...John Williams I believe

And Pirates of the Carribbean by Hans Zimmer I think.

I can't even think of others right now. I often hear different selections from them at marching band competitions too lol.

I also like stuff from Joe Hisashi...like in Spirited Away

I also like the score for Howl's Moving Castle

I listen to W.E soundtrack and I found it amazing, so cohesive and the piano and strings sections and motif are so gorgeous!
I love how Abel Korzeniowski composed them

2046 soundtrack is genius.

Hans Zimmer reworks a lot of his soundtracks. Gladiator/Pirates are like the same, and both great. The other tracks for Gladiator are gorgeous.

Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman has the most orgasmic soundtrack.

Django Unchained is also genius. The fact that he used the song from Two Mules for Sister Sara? ugh. I died in the movie theater when I heard it. Quentin in general has fabulous soundtracks to all of his movies. Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Reservoir.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The third and fourth Harry Potter ones, I think I remember the best.

Pan's Labyrinth
Kingdom of Heaven (omg )

oh and a weird one, but Disney's Hercules lol I just LOVE the gospel theme mixed with Greek Mythology. It's so ballsy. And the songs are well written and well sung.

I still haven't seen Paperman. fml lol

forgot about Inception, Braveheart, Edward Scissorhands, Blow, Kama Sutra, Casino, and Tron

Ramin Djawadi's Pacific Rim. He is also kinda good-looking. Lol
Hans Zimmer - The Thin Red Line, The Lion King (and those songs composed by Elton John), and Inception.
Thomas Newman's scores are gorgeous e.g. WALL-E
Howard Shore. Can you imagine Lord of the Rings with a different score? Of course not.
And the list goes on...

Every composer has a very distinct sound. Like, you could easily tell if the movie was scored by Hans Zimmer or James Newton Howard.

I don't think this movie was ever released but the score was! I recommend Larry Groupé's Excelsius.

TITANIC and my all time favorite Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron by Hans Zimmer and Bryan Adams

EDIT: and yah! I got a bunch of OSTs of korean and japanese movies/dramas too. I guess DITTO, The Classic, Windstruck and A Millonaire's First Love tops my korean list. And Hana Yori Dango, nodame Cantabile, Toki wo kakeru shoujou and some Ghibli movie OSTs too. and who wouldn't love Final Fantasy scores. they're pure awesomeness!
