control on music
lol i just made this thread because i was curious of how people control themselves when theyre exposed to so much japanese or asian music. i have the hardest time there so many good singers out there that i have but i feel that i have too much music and i barely listen to all of it and neglect the singers i loved plus im running out of room on my 32gb ipod. so what do you guys do when you cant control your self with music?

Honestly, a few years ago, I was downloading multiple albums from different artists every day, from all different genres.
I sat and listened to it all day...and I was even writing reviews for a while. em. I love music, but I just got burned out. There are a million great artists, but very few of them end up speaking to me. It's kind of like, getting a boyfriend. When I was out and around and looking for it, I felt like I was getting nowhere and was so exhausted. When I stopped and just, was more casual and did what I really loved....great things just fell into my lap. I am happier this way But I still try out new people time to time, usually based off recommendations from people in my circles.

I test out new artists while downloading everything from my favorites. The artists that I just "like" get neglected sometimes.

I'm very picky. Always have been.
There is a ton of good music out there, but also a lot of generic crap and music that doesn't speak to me at all. In my case, I like music I myself even think of as "bad" or perhaps even "grating". But there's one thing I can't stand - boring music. Which there is a lot of. I follow very few artists with zeal. A good amount with high interest and many with somewhat of an interest. I don't have a whole lot of music to listen to and go through

I still try a lot of different artists. But most of them get deleted from my computer if it didn't really catch my attention. It's all about keeping on top of keeping quality music and being honest with yourself when you say "Will I ever want to listen to this again?"

I have only 64 différents singers/bands in my computer. 1/4 are the ones I can listen all days, 2/4 are the ones I like a lot but not the whole discography and the last quarter are the ones I only like a few songs ... In fact I really don't like have just one song of a singer so I take time to appreciate new stuff I am very picky when in comes to music ! I don't like have tones of songs which I can not remind me of the melody lol |

I try a lot of musics & download cds. One day, I realized that I have more 40GO on my external HDD. It's too much. So I'm cleaning it since that day. I listen to each song. I clear out the one I don't like (when I have an album, I used to keep the song I don't like, now I only keep the one I like) or the one I liked in the past but don't like anymore.
When I download a cd now, I put in the bin the song I don't like quickly. When the song is ok, I let a trial time before to decided of it fate. I delete instrumental version on single too. |

jajajaja Me too! If a single comes with instrumentals, the first thing I do, is delete those
![]() I download music like everyday. I keep most of it in 3 different folders, so when I don't know what to listen, I comb through those folders and give a listen to those artists I didn't know, and then decide their fate. I also keep a main folder with albums I like. I have... literally hundreds of GBs of music, so every like 2 months, I go though my collection and delete stuff I kept for whatever reason and I never liked, or simply stuff that while not bad, I won't ever listen again. Still, it's hard to give equal attention to all of them. I make a top 25 weekly of my favorite songs, and even if I am stuck in one artist, I listen to my chart and get a nice mix of artists. If too long passes and some artists still don't get heard, I delete them.

I have very good control of myself. I only buy music now, I never download. I only buy what I really like. I have about 1,067 songs and buy *around* a couple of albums every few months. So space isn't a issue on my computer or iPod/iPhone. I used to download and I did have problems with space back then! (And there were tons of unlistened to songs!) I'm really happy with the way I do things now. (And I never tire of what I have.)

Hmm....very good question....In the past I had a "big problem" - when I was listening to full albums there were songs from it that I simply didn't like ......however, I was keeping them in my computer...I was thinking "I'll give those songs another chance" but I realised that this is a wrong perception..
![]() Even if you like only one song from an artist, keep it..you don't have to keep the entire discography... I still have to clean some space on my computer..... Last edited by Surreal17; 13th January 2014 at 06:28 PM. |

When I was younger I used to listen to all my music on shuffle but as I became older I grew more album-orientated. To this day I rarely listen to things on shuffle and I will prefer to single out a particular artist and listen to them at length before moving on.
I tend to discover musicians through live music for instance, last year I got into two amazing artists who were support acts and I've been very into them. The way I see it is, just because I can shuffle my music it doesn't necessarily make it natural. An album is created for a particular reason (especially when it comes to AOM which is what I normally listen to) and so to pick and choose what I like based on a whim is an extraordinary freedom which should not be taken lightly.
