▄▀▄▀▄乃木坂46▄▀▄▀▄ Nogizaka46: The First Thread

Spoiler:
Nogizaka46 is a Japanese idol group created and produced by Akimoto Yasushi, famous for producing other idol groups such as Onyanko Club and AKB48. On June 29, 2011, it was announced that Nogizaka46 was to be formed as the "official rival" to the most popular group in the world, AKB48. They are not to be confused with other groups produced by Akimoto such as SKE48 or HKT48, which are sister groups of AKB48. They are named after the location of the SME Nogizaka Building, which houses Sony Music Japan’s offices. The number "46" in the name was selected as a direct challenge to AKB48; the intention is that even though Nogizaka46 has less members than AKB48, they will not loose to AKB48.

38,934 people applied to audition for the group's first generation. Of those, there were 56 finalist. In the final audition, 36 of those finalists were selected as the first generation of Nogizaka46. On August 22, 2011, the selected 36 first generation members were announced along with a preliminary 16-member Senbatsu.

The debut single of the group, Guru Guru Curtain, was released on February 15, 2012. It reached #2 on the Oricon Weekly Single charts. Released on May 2, 2012, their second single titled Oide Shampoo managed to claim the #1 position on the weekly charts, defeating ex-AKB48 member (kicked out due to a sex scandal) Sashihara Rino's lackluster debut single. So far, they have released 4 singles, with all the releases following Guru Guru Curtain reaching #1 on the Oricon Weekly Single charts. They also have their own TV show titled Nogizakatte, Doko? The senbatsu members as well as the Shichi Fukujin ("Seven Lucky Gods." i.e the 7 front members; similar to AKB48's Kami 7) for each of their single releases are usually announced on Nogizakatte, Doko?

Their 3rd single will be released on March 13, 2013

^That would be Seifuku no Mannequin. It's better than anything AKB48/the rest of the 48 groups have released this year.

Oh I thought Seifuku no Mannequin was the ending theme. I didn't know they provided the theme song as well.

I'm really into AKB48 but didn't have any interest in Nogizaka46... until I heard Seifuku no Mannequin and happened to watch a late-night show featuring some of the girls at praying for the success of the single at a temple. And I really like the Magi theme song (it's been replaced since Jan., though, boo!).

Noooo, I don't want to be obsessed with another group!! LOL!

^Jump ship now before AKB48 dies! It's coming...AkiPhatass keeps giving them the crappy singles like Gingham Check and Eien Pressure...whereas Nogizaka gets gold like Seifuku...I bet he's doing it on purpose....they keep saying AKB is a 10 yr project and it's been like 7 so hmmmmm

I tend to agree *gasp*. The quality of AKB48's singles is getting worse while I'm pleasantly surprised by Nogizaka's... I don't know what word to use... charming? elegant? singles.

BTW, I REALLY love the first post, the introduction. Very nice!
