Arrow Jobless man supports 'Ayu' addiction through life of crime:

News Story Here

OSAKA -- A 35-year-old fan of superstar singer Ayumi Hamasaki has been arrested for a series of robberies he committed to cover the cost of attending her concerts and buying "Ayu" merchandise, police said Wednesday.

Masashi Tsueda, an unemployed man of no fixed address, is suspected of stealing some 22 million yen from July 2001 to September last year.

The charges over which he was recently arrested involve a robbery in which he took about 50,000 yen from a house in Ibaraki, Osaka Prefecture in June 2002.

Tsueda reportedly stayed at cheap hotels and sauna bathhouses in and around the Umeda district of downtown Osaka.

When he was short of funds to support his Ayu addiction, Tsueda set out on bicycle to burgle places in Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures in the Kansai region."I made a rule of stealing no more than 200,000 yen a day," officers quoted Tsueda as saying.

He allegedly committed some 170 robberies. (Wire stories, Japan, April 7, 2004)

Wow.. with that much money, he could've bought all her CDs and DVDs, and still have enough to go to one of her concerts

a real devoted fan! the fact that he didnt have anything didn't discourage him at all...and he got away with it for awhile. 200,000 yen...that's almost $2000...is there that much to buy?? i mean with that much money on a daily basis you'd have to have like more than one of everything! where'd he keep this stuff??

It's funny to read, but he shouldn't really be called a true fan...it's very much against what Ayumi stands for. I suspect he was addicted to stealing, not to Ayu.

Still...considering a large proportion of Japanaese like Ayumi, maybe the jury will understand and be kind to him!
