those cool barcode things(!!)

at ayu-chan's official site (avexnet.or.jp/ayu)

"QRコードでURLを送信!"
on the right hand side, there's this black and white pixel "QR code". I've been wondering what these's are for since i've seen them on Japanese sites and posters for many things, such as on a PSP poster.

Are they scanned by mobile phones to access things??

thnx^^

Yep, you're right. Judging by the complexity (as the text beside it suggests) I'm guessing that pattern only holds the page url and maybe a tiny bit more info like the title of the page. Ie probably designed for adding it to your phone's favourites.

It's possible to put a lot more info in, have a play with
http://nfg.2y.net/system/qrcodegen.php
to make your own ones.

Haven't found any free software that decodes them yet though (Axtel's doesn't handle this format).

QR Codes are basically 2-dimensional UPC or barcodes. As you can see on the manufacturer's page they're capable of holding quite a bit more data than a standard UPC code. It's an internationally standardized system of encoding information so that it can be read by a visual scanner. It's almost certain to be immediately superceded by RFID chips, assuming rabid anti-technology privacy advocates don't shift us back to the dark ages.

These codes are quite common in Japan and are often seen on flyers and magazine ads. Cellular phone users can scan the code with their built-in camera and immediately have all the contact info they need entered into their camera, sorted appropriately.

These codes are reportedly quite durable, allowing up to 30% of the code to be obscured or removed by dirt, marks or damage and still be completely readable. The can be printed as a regular graphic by any printer, making them very flexible.
Here're some sites with info on QR Codes:

Don't mention it~

I was wondering what it was too when I first saw it on the spine card on day after tomorrow's single, lost angel.
Then did some searching thru google and got those sites I posted.
