Does anyone know any bands from Finland?

Like HIM, The Rasmus or Nightwish for example? Nightwish rules! They're really popular in the South-America And all of those are really popular in Europe...

i'm not sure, but i think there's a finnish group called Nylon Beat.. i think they sing in the pop genre. If you're familiar with S.E.S.'s Dreams Come True, Nylon Beat originally did that song while SES did a cover for it

if you like HIM and Nightwish, i believe you'll like these bands: Lacuna Coil, Amorphis, Within Temptation, and Oratory.

Aren't metal bands and such best known abroad? The 69 Eyes, Children of Bodom, Lullacry, Apocalyptica, Stratovarius, to add some names.

And kristen, I remember Nylon Beat going to Japan but I didn't know a song had actually been covered by an Asian group. They were the queens of helium-voiced Finnish pop. I wasn't expecting them to last a year but they just kept going and going until '03.

Proud to be from Finland, 'cos Nightwish is from here!
Nylon Beat covered by some asian group?! You're kidding me! Right? How could I forget Nylon Beat! They were so awful! Somehow they managed to have a quite long career... I think that "Dreams come true" was originally "Rakastuin mä luuseriin" in Finnish... Anyway...that's enough of Nylon Beat... Thank God they quit last year!

Stratovarius for example is very popular in Japan.

The next band heading abroad is propably Kwan. Something like that I've heard...

Doesn't Negative have a contract with some big company now? I remember an article along the lines of "soon they'll be famous abroad!" Kwan wouldn't surprise me, didn't they already have a video on MTV Nordic?

I almost forgot Negative! They were playing in Japan, like couple of gigs in Tokyo or something... And I think they got a record deal from there.. and aren't they supposed to have a tour in Japan too?

Go Finland!

I think a lot of people might have heard Darude's "Sandstorm" , it's so overplayed tho

I'm from Finland too , I'm just used to put not so specific location on my profile so people have a better idea where I actually live.

Yes they are from Finland. Their drummer used to live near my house when he was a kid. I went to the same elementary school and junior high where he went

Yeah, Darude's Sandstorm was a huge hit couple of years ago.. I'm not much of a fan of his music...

@halla: My location was saing "the land of the midnightsun" but I changed it for some reason... Great to see some other Finns here

The best-known Finnish bands are metal. Even The Rasmus is more rock than pop. Darude and Bomfunk MC's were pretty much one-hit dance wonders.

Here's the version by Nylon Beat and following the version by SES.

Nylon Beat - Rakastuin Mae Luuseriin
SES - Dreams Come True

Oh, sweet 90's nostalgia! Where did you manage to find the NB file? The SES cover sounds quite nice, and I doubt the lyrics could be worse than in the original.

yeah, that's all pretty true... Somehow Bomfunk Mc's has managed to do somekind of a comeback or someting, but I don't think they'll go abroad anymore... or you never know...

Listening to that NB song at the moment... Ah, I can still remember how 8year-old mizumi used to dance to this in a kids disco in a Helsinki-Stockholm ship The SES version sounds so cute!
