The best album you own + review..

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone has an album which they treasure very very very very very very much! It can be an Ayumi album and it can be an album of any languages! Please tell me! You might be promoting your favourite album in this way! For me...

Utada Hikaru
DEEP RIVER

I recommend EVERYBODY to check this album out ! It must be the best J-POP album out there! Every track is single quality! As everyone know, Sakura Drops is one of Utada's most successful singles! I saw it claimed the number 2 spot for the Most Popular Song for the year 2002 in Japan according to a pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ radio station (If you want the link I'll give it..)! THIS album has THAT track!!! The album is perfect! Starting with the ETERNALLY BEAUTIFUL "Sakura Drops" and progressing to the playful and vibrant "Traveling" ! Other MUST HEAR tracks are "Deep River" and "Tokyo Nights"!!! The former had a video which was set in Hawaii and was similar to Fairyland except that it was very sad ... Tokyo Nights has a really cool sound and the english she spoke is flawless (Baby, what's my price..)!!! A.S.A.P. is another winner, sounding so wonderful!!! Final Distance, the slower version of Distance shines, she sings it emotionally here. Letters shows her vocals off, simple and beautiful. Hikari, the Kingdom Hearts last track, is probably the most famous track off Deep River worldwide! However, those who bought the album late might be much more lucky as they get the PERFECT COLORS. That song is plain divine... So if you dont have Deep River GET IT!! It might be the album you'll treasure most next!!

Best album I own, well, choosing one particular album is always hard. However, I recently made a top 20 list of my favorite albums of all time (which is, of course, ever-changing, but well) so I'll just pick the album I listed as #1 - that one being Fiona Apple's 'When The Pawn...'.

Picking a highlight on this album is pretty much impossible, as simply every song is astonishingly great - although Paper Bag is a particular favorite. The way the whole album is performed is simply perfect. Although not anywhere near over-produced, it ís in fact flawless - every single sound seems to be in the exact right place. The lyrics are amazing as well - an excerpt from Paper Bag:

Quote:
And I went crazy again today
Looking for a strand to climb
Looking for a little hope
Baby said he couldn't stay, wouldn't put his lips to mine
And a fail to kiss is a fail to cope
I said, Honey, I don't feel so good, don't feel justified
Come on, put a little love here in my void
He said, It's all in your head
I said, So is everything, but he didn't get it
I thought he was a man but he was just a little boy

Thinking this through once more, I am in fact 100% sure that this is the best album I own (and it's the best album ever made, imo). Simply outstanding.

The story's a tad more complicated - the songs were finished for three years already, the album just hadn't been released yet. Fiona recently re-recorded most songs with a new producer, the album's coming out on October 4th. Here and here are two threads on the whole thing.

oh, its weird that she didnt record it finish in one shot.. then why didnt she want to release the album? wouldnt the sales be hampered if it leaked online? rerecording is a smart move though. by the way, what kind of musician is she? pop? adult? rock? is she like tori amos? tori amos is perfect!

It's hard to say what genre it is, although you could probably describe it as funky pop-rock - which suggests something totally different than what it actually is. You've got to hear it, I guess. They're mostly intimate, heart-felt songs, with cabaret-like/pop-rock arrangements.

As for the new album, Extraordinary Machine, you can find the exact explanation on the pages I linked to - but I can imagine that's quite the read. I'll summarize it; initially, Fiona had recorded this album with Jon Brion, a producer. She finished it in 2002 or 2003, and then just nothing happened. Rumor spread that her label didn't want to release it because they feared bad sales and because they felt that there wasn't a potential single on the album. This was the cause for a lot of distress and anger among fans, some of whom even founded Free Fiona, trying to get the label to release the album. A couple of months ago, however, Fiona admitted that she in fact wasn't happy with Jon Brion's arrangements for the songs and thus she went on to record most of the album (leave for two songs) again with a different producer, Mike Delonzo. It's coming out on October 4 now, finally. Of course the album had been leaked already, it's been flouting around the net for about a year I think now. However, this is the Jon Brion-produced version, so the version coming out in just over a month will be different. The songs will be the same, but the arrangements and production will differ from the leaked versions.

Hope you like 'em! My advise would be to download When The Pawn - Tidal's nice as well, but not nearly as good.
