Hawaiian flower in Ayu's ear ~ !

I don't think this is much of a big deal, but I couldn't help but see in Ayu's PV and offscreen shots that she wears a flower behind her left ear.

Being born in Hawaii (as my parents were both raised there) - usually, when a girl wears a flower behind her right ear, it means she is unattached, or in other words, is single. But if the flower is worn on the left ear, it means one has a boyfriend or is married.

As I said - I don't really care about Ayu's love life, because we all eventually have one, right? If Ayu is happy, then I am happy for her as well

Just some cultural point I wanted to bring up ..

I think that's really really neat, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info! I think it's possible for Ayu (or maybe the director or costume coordinator of the video) to have known that and used the flower for that purpose. Not only is Ayu stuff always riddled with symbolism and little quirks, but it was filmed in Hawaii where I'm sure she had fun getting into the spirit of the islands and picking up a few things.

I knew about that tradition but I don't really think that has anything to do with celebrities wearing the flowers. ^_^ Ayumi might have a side that she prefers to be photographed on or something, and that may have affected the flower position. Or it could be completely random haha.

definitely... it's funny how much a flower can say... my friend was so stupid, she never my leader for summer fun was dating, and she only realized after about a month of consistently telling her my leader's flower was in her left ear...
When did she start dating? ever since 28.06.2000 she had it in her left ear... on my records

well, i think she might know this because she has been to hawai'i a few times... so i'd think she'd know, may be by asking a local... because i brushed her presence once, and i think she knew where she was going without a map... so she must of been here for a while...

I have to agree. Ayu might have put it there just to look pretty/for fun (or the director or a staff member used the idea). Then again, she was in Hawaii, so it's possible she learned about the culture and meaning of the flower.
