I know this video is kinda old but can anyone explain the meaning of the sequences in the video? I dont know what the song has to do with it.. Why can she see the future and why didnt that kid who ran in front of the car get creamed? Is she suggesting that love gives her special powers?
However, I watched Alterna thrice yesterday beack to back because of the weirdness! The sequences are SO COOL but puzzling!! 1) The moving fan- i think Ayu is trying to say that she is like a machine that is made for people's use.. 2)A Girl Goes To A City-This is about Ayu on her way to being famous but she is followed by.. gothic clowns? 3)A Sweet Trap- I dont what is this.. But it looks like Ayu was tricked to sign some kind of document.. Display of Engrish here.. "you are the Stars".. Shouldnt it be you are a star? or you are the star? Or maybe its not English and the trap is that the clowns use STARS to describe that Ayu will be copied into many more Ayu's after she signs it, but Ayu thought it was Engrish? 4)Stage of Brightness- This I think shows Ayu at her peak, everyone wants to see her and all the clowns taking photos... The newspaper said "HIT SINGING MACHINE- ALMOST HUMAN" but she is human in the video, right? 5)Copy Factory- It looks like the clowns are making a copy of Ayu, and the copies dont exactly sing, they look the same.. Maybe Ayu is saying that her copycats cant really copy her.. 6)The EYE IN THE MOUTH ~shudder~- This part shocked me when i saw it on TV.. I think she means that her singing is capable of differentiating people? and the clowns are all scared of her copies now.. 7)The garbage dump+Finale Of The Show- Ayu is in a garbage dump, i think that means her copies are far more popular and the original gets thrown away. However, what the heck is the boy pulling the girl's skirt seen got to do with anything? Probably she means that boys only want to see flesh all the time? Dont know.. The end with the heart pierced by an arrow and still beating is really scary.. Must mean that Ayu is still alive or has feelings but suffering at the dump. I'm not sure with this one either any other intepretations are welcomed!! Ayu's abstract PV's are always gorgeous and interesting... Last edited by Mad_Cactuar; 31st August 2005 at 02:24 AM. |

Um, i think it was kinda like some things aren't as they seemed? I unno, like when everything was getting destroyed, and only her happiness was being destroyed?
If i'm wrong, i'd like to know too. |

Whoa whoa yeah, yeah
Yeah yeah yeah Lalalala la-i Lalalala la-i Yeah yeah yeah... Your gaze is so very tender as you stare at me Over there, on that little flimsy chair. With a gentle, happy face, She agreed, smiling While some kind of loud noise was building, In my mind, it was as though it was collapsing Unable to move, I just kept standing there "Why isn't it me?" I asked, but It's not some kind of foolish example. You were there as I had never seen you before. As I can only, only feel from far away, How on earth can I express this emotion? From time to time, the sorrow in your eyes Would show me the reason, so... That which can be given to you -- I can't give it; no one can. Is it only that one person who is so understanding that can? When do you first miss her? About that time, I realized the truth. I saw through the lies, and even if I pretend they are truth It's just, just so excessively empty. This feeling.... Is this known as "love"? "Why isn't it me?" I asked, but It's not some kind of foolish example. You were there as I had never seen you before. Did you feel it from far away? When do you first miss her? About that time, I realized the truth. I saw through the lies, and even if I pretend they are truth It's just, just so excessively empty. This feeling is certainly known as "love", isn't it? Whoa whoa yeah, yeah Yeah yeah yeah Lalalala la-i Lalalala la-i Yeah yeah yeah... here's the lyrical translation I'm not so sure what it means though.(the pv I mean) |

My theory on the Sweet Trap part is that ayu thought, going into it, that she'd just be happy and successful and famous and everything would be peachy-keen. Alot of people going into modeling, acting, singing, or whatever kind of entertainment profession think this. But then you're stuck in it, even if it has aspects that make you miserable, for one reason or another. In ayu's case, she really wants to make songs and communicate her feelings with fans, and also to stay singing for the fans. She feels she has a responsibility for her fans, her record label, and herself to keep writing songs & performing. Parts of it though, like copies, tabloids, and a harsh schedule, probably make her INCREDIBLY stressed.

OMG, SYPHEX!! That explains waaayyy much more than my explanation!!! I agree with all of them!! Especially about the clowns and the garbage dump, never thought about it that way!! Wow, thanks!! Delirium Zero your definition for the Sweet Trap also makes a lot of sense.. Ayu probably did not expect that her work would also give her a hard time like you said it: tabloids, schedules and stress... AGREE WITH BOTH OF YOU!! ^.^

Everyone's explaining Alterna on their own way, most videos may have an explanation but also everyone gets a different meaning about it.
What I can say about Is This Love is that love, being such a feeling, invisible thing, apparently harmless, can also be destructive. In this case, the house represents the inner Ayu, as she is deeply in love but not being loved in return, she tends to selfdestruct, as things go boom (he he he), she realizes that love is hurting her, that's why she sings... Is This Feeling Known As Love? If it's something human, how come can it be so painful, is it something the people like? To suffer? It is as if Ayu is asking herself if love is what she thought it would be. In the end, the kid doesn't get "creamed" because of... (here goes this corny sentence) THE POWER OF LOVE which in the end she realizes that it cannot only hurt and destroy but it can only heal and save and create and so many things. So that's why the house goes back to normal, because even if you have been brokenhearted you can always rise upon everything and be stronger. Well, it's only an opinion. I hope you liked it. *+D.N.A.+*

is this love? to me was not about ayu having psychic powers (although that is a fun idea to have in mind when you watch the video)
We see Ayu very sad throughout the whole video... and she supposedly sees the future... well the song talks about, I think, is someone finding out that their love doesn't love them back in return... When you lose a love like that suddenly you can feel like your whole world is crashing down on you... I think that Ayu is playing a part of a heartbroken woman... and she pictures her world crashing down upon her... Then we see a boy get hit by a car... and I believe that symbolizes that we feel like our world will end when we lose someone we thought we couldn't live without... but then Ayu see that everything is okay and that the boy doesn't get hit... and that symbolises that she is going to be okay, and that her hurt will pass... Then it shows her apartment, like none of the stuff (exploding fish tanks and apples) ever happened... And that symbolises the beginning of healing... That's what I got when I watched it... the video can seem very boring if you don't really read into everything... but once I got it, It really is a sad and beautiful PV ![]() EDIT: Just read dark's explanation- Yeah, forgot about the title... She can't believe that the feeling of a great love can turn into such a heartbreak... and that love can hurt very badly

Hmm, well I was thinking that the fact that everything she walks by in the video is destroyed is telling us that she feels as if she only brings trouble to everything and everyone around her. Then, when the boy was about to get hit by the car, and it was destroyed and he walked away unharmed, I think that was to convey that even though she thinks she causes a lot of trouble, there is still good that she does for people. But I like *+Dark.Night.Angel.+*'s interpretation better. It makes more sense when you think about the boy and his dog. He lost something he loved, so he went to chase after it, and almost got hurt. But through his perseverance, he was able to overcome the obstacle and continue to pursue the dog.
Now about "alterna"... I believe the "SINGING MACHINE- ALMOST HUMAN!" is supposed to show how Ayu was forced to sing song after song in one of her concerts and was sent to a hospital afterwards (or at least this is what I read on ayunite). Personally, I think that the eye in her mouth is supposed to symbolize how she sings what she sees. As most of you know, Ayu writes her own lyrics and they're usually about things she personally observes. Also, it seems to me that the whole story has a greater power in it. I wrote on Ayunite that the strings on everyone represents the media, and how the press manipulates everything. This wasn't clear to me until the end of the video with the boy pulling up the girl's skirt. They were watch TVs in the window of an electronics store, and it showed how children are manipulated by what they see on the television. Last edited by Rain_RuLez; 3rd September 2005 at 07:18 PM. |

Yep, Alterna is such a deep video though many will say thatthe director must have seen some Rob Zombie movie, the truth is, this video shows the reality with a funny vision. As Ayumi can see the paradoxes all aroun herself as she sings her way to Stardom, Perfection and Self Superation.
