Stores selling Japanese Music in New York?

Does anyone know the actual locations of places in New York that sell Japanese Music?

I heard of Bookoff, but I don't know where that would be .__.

I think there was recently another thread about the same thing, actually.

The New York Book-Off is @ 41st and 5th, right across from the NY Public Library. It is next to a Subway sandwich shop and a couple Japanese restaurant/market type places.

There is also Kinokuniya right next to Rockefeller Center, which I don't like, personally. I think it's a little snobbish sometimes, the prices are high, and it doesn't have very much music (one shelf-area).

There used to be an Asahiya on (I think) Vanderbilt, which was my favorite. They had quite a bit of music (compared to Kinokuniya), it was easier to navigate, quieter, and the staff were cheerful and friendly. It has since gone bankrupt, though, which is a bummer.

Those are the only places I go to, though. I'm sure you can get Chinese versions in Chinatown, though.

is book off fair with their prices? does it have the OBI? what/who am I mostly going to find?

well I go to Book Off all the time but book of is alike a retail shop all therer stuff is second which means its cheap but I never have any problems ,no scratches on my disk or DVD and somtimes you get Obi's sometimes you dont. I only have 1 Obi and that came with My Concert Tour Vol.2 Lol

I got my recent collection of AYu from Book of here it is

A Ballads: $10 w/ slip case
LOVEppears: $10
A: $3
Concert Tour Vol.1: $30
Concert Tour Vol.2:$30
Dome Tour:$30
Stadium Tour :$30
Ayu-Mi-X IV (Non-stop):$7
Ayu-Mi-X 5: $7
Memoiral Address CD/DVD: $15

and some Magazines are like :$1-7

and you get discounts if everytime you spend $5 they stamp your membership card until you get up to $50 and then you gte a $2.50 discount on your next perchase.

They only thing Kimokuniya is good for is Anime for Music there just too expenisve I was goona by (miss)understood from there the CD version and it was $34 so I cried a little and walked out.

Also Boook off has a great collection of Japanese Manga not translated ones and Japanese DVD's I love that store and people are nice. Kinokuniya is uncomfortable since its so quite and so business like.

for us in other country its pretty hard to find original stuff

That Kinokuniya sounds way different from the one in Malaysia .__.

Holy crap, that's disgustingly cheap. Kinokuniya over here in San Francisco is at least triple those prices. O_O

Those purchases were all at Book-Off, though. Book-Off is a used-goods store, selling books, magazines, videos/DVDs, and music. So naturally the prices are basically cut in half. All of their stuff is like new, though, so it's a win-win situation. The only problem is, they only stuff they have is what people return to them. So I often find a million copies of Memorial address, but no singles. Other times it will be just the opposite. It's unpredictable, but totally worth it.

There are a lot more on the West Coast, but we Easterners have slim pickins.

It is most certainly true that the entire world can be found in New York. How much of it can be found though, is another matter.

I get all my albums from NYC! I always go to the same place. In Chinatown, it is. They are overseas version. And cost about $15 each. The DVDs and VCDs also. And no, they are not bootleg!

If you go to Chinatown, walk on Canel Street/Bowery Street. Near the Mahattan Bridge, there's a corner with a few asian CD stores!

The Asahiya is back. It's on 45th between 5th and Madison.

Ooh that's good to know; I'm going up to NYC this coming Thursday...don't think I'll have time to go look for Jpop though.
