ayu's vocals nowadays...

is it me or is she too tired nowadays or her vocals had gone REAAALLY BAD?! i mean seriously, for the WHOLE of 2006, i haven't seen or heard a performance that impressed me... i would skip the BAD vocals at the latest cdl as she runs many many places... but look at the performance at arena tour 2006! her vocals r totally BLOCKED or something... n she's SHOUTING her way through the WHOLE concert... the most acceptable performance are the "rainy day",
"step you" n the "is this LOVE" 1s.. the others like "born to be" n "HEAVEN"... god!

if u don really get wad i mean, watch the performace of HANABI at a'nation 05... its not SO long ago... her vocals r bright n clear n powerful! but nowadays her vocals seems to be BLOCKED...

for example... try to pronouns (1)"aaaagh....." n (2)"eeerrrr"... 1 sounds more clear rite? thats the sound ayu had been using for her greatest performance (to me...)! n nowadays, ayu kept on singing with 2...

i'm really sorry if i make anyone here feels uneasy or upset with this... its just something kept inside of me for quite sometime now... if u wanna discuss, urgue, debate or even delete this tread, i'm fine with it!

well. have you even HEARD the encore @ AT06? Ayu really has awesome vocals lately. Of course she does more and more dancing and acting during her lives so that'll harm her vocals a bit; but still. Her voice is really under control.

1998 ~ 2001 - Squeeky little girl with a VERY loud iiii
2002 ~ 2003 - Mature voice with so much vibrato
2004+ - Perfect balance; She can sing very low and very high.

Also in the BEST of CDL06'07; NEVER EVER and the 1st part of ASFXX are just superb!

yup! i bought the dvd... n wow... u must be easily satisfied.. i mean, those r some really AVERAGE performances compared to those she is capable of... n there's no excuses for dancing too much or wadever... look at REAL ME at AT 03-04!

hmmm.. maybe i'm just asking too much?

n i hope no one misunderstood my point ya? I LOVE AYU ALOT!! n she's my FAV idol!! really! its just that, sometimes, fans do get disappointed u know...

I just don't like the annoying voice Ayu had before 2003. Now she has this great control over her voice; which she shows off alot in 2004/2005/2006-lives.

it's right, her vocals changed, maybe you just don't like the way that they changed.
I think they've become better, I mean, on RAINBOW there are many songs in which her voice sounds kinda "blocked", a bit if she was mourning.

rody!: TOTALLY AGREE WITH U ON THE LAST 3! but the (miss)understood 1... to me, she's just pain shouting... BUT! i can c alot of emotions! so yup, thats our ayu!

Umm... to be honest I always thought that Ayu was very bad at singing live, I rarely see a performance where I think "wow, she sang that really well" (except Rainy Day at AT06 which was amazing). Although it does pain me when she sings extra-badly like in that performance of 1 LOVE she did at CDTV.

Her voice is getting lower. Just listen to the a'nation Startin', and the way she sings the " totomo suki dakedo" part really made me realised that wow, Ayu has a really low voice now!

She tend to go off key here and there, but I guess that happens to anyone who suffered from loss of hearing before. Ayu had problems with her left ear during the dome tour, so I guess it has somehow affected her pitching now.

Try watching 1love performance, if you haven't, at CDTV. Its the best TV performance that I've watched this year.

1 LOVE is a tough song. Her voice was actually very good; but the volume/output etc wasn't that great so it didn't flow good with the instruments.

but.. Yea I'm just a sucker for Ayu's rock-chick voice. In AT06, after the final notes of (miss)understood, Ayu stands next to Yoshio and 'screams' a few very very strong and powerful notes.. THAT... is extreeeemely difficult to do and she did it totally rockish... She never could've done that in 2001.. xD

hmm..i agree and disagree with you...
from what i have heard from AT06...
-is this LOVE? 's vocals were NOT as great as the a-nation 05 wan..which is a letdown..still i like she holding the end notes
-(miss)understood's vocals were also not as gd...she sounded really deep in some parts and i dont like that..but the time she SCREAMED at the end, totally blew me away! that is ROCK!!
-About You in AT05..this didnt work for me...the part after she came out and knelt down...that vocal was no gd..too deep...

Real Me dancing didnt have vocals...and it was after the song...so that didnt matter...and i tot HEAVEN's vocals were very controlled..well she tried..teens as well..(nth beats rainy day in AT06 thou)

i think Ayu can have ups and downs in vocals...in CDs, i really prefer her PRESENT voice..Secret's vocals are strong!
but for live, i prefer she keeps it similar to the CD vocal...if not, i m very scared she goes too deep and shouts (until that Day... in CDL0607)..not that its bad...im ok as long as its not over the top...but it might not reflect well on her being Queen

on the whole, im trying to adapt to her new vocals...i watch AT06 a few times, and that rock part seems ok now...

i think, we (you & i) are people who really set the bar at the CD vocals thing, so i think we just have to adapt...hehe

Well it'd be a darn shame if ayu's lives soundes the same as in the CD.. especially with rock-songs; that's just not done. There's so much more energy in the live-performance if she hold a final note for a very long time; but that doesn't sound that great on CD.

i know...i was trying to mean...dont go too deep and stuff like tat...power is another thing...the 1 LOVE live was really gd...because she didnt go too deep in her voice and was strong as well....

likewise for until that Day..., despite being tired and some off and some shouts, i think her vocals were still going strong...

i just dun like it when she goes too too deep...diff is ok..

i think her ear problem is a disadvantage...
are those black plugs she has block out sound?...maybe she cant hear herself too clearly too?

speaking of the AT06.. did you notice that in the CDL06'07; you can see the At06-bloopers? You see (miss)understood beeing sung from within the alterna-ball, and you see a girl in ladies night beeing chained and then she falls over... so funny xD..

She improved a lot. I didn't see anything wrong with this year's Born to Be... performance, I thought her vocals were ok in that one...

I always thought Ayu does lots of shouting in her concert. Used to, and still do. She's always shouting in the same part for "Boys & Girls" for example. and "B&D". I think it's normal and also a way to get the crowd's energy. Also, she sings live through the whole show. She could be out of breath so she shouts instead? Of course, she sings well. Her "JEWEL" performances weren't all that great because she kinda sing it loudly. But she does that often with other songs too. I don't think her vocals are that bad. I just think she should sing songs that would embrace and match with her voice better. Like "Close to you" or "RAINBOW". These songs really shows how beautiful her voice is.

I think Ayu's problem is that she doesn't control her vocals well when she sings live.

I actually totally agree with ayusick... And I'm a sucker for ayu's rock voice too. She sounded really awful at CDL 06-07, just really tired, more even than cdl 05-06. And she sounded good for most of AT'06, but definitely started getting tired. AT'05, she sounded wonderful. And I DO think she sounded crappy during the live performance of (miss)understood... during the chorus especially. For example, "chuutohanpa de / misekake dake no" on "de" and "no", she's not SINGING those words, She's just yelling them. Which makes me sad cuz she sounds AWESOME on the album. But yeah, between '04 (after she started cutting down on the awful, overdone rainbow-era vibrato... which she seems to be back to x_x) and early '06 she sounded better than she does now.
