Welcome to the Promised Land..It's The 1st Official Rurutia Thread!

I don't recall ever seeing a Rurutia thread here, so I decided to make one ! So let's talk about our beautiful, wonderful, and mysterious Rurutia!

I've been listening to her new album Seirios, and I must say it's amazing so far! Definitely not a letdown .

Btw, whats your guys' favorite song on Seirios? For me it's a tie between Seirios and Yume Akari...those two songs are absolutely exceptional.

Haha, weird, I could have sworn there was a thread already. Oh well.

Um, I need to download later, but I know it's going to be good, as expected from her.

My favourite song from the album is Seirios, oh my.. ;_;
But I also love Hyousa a lot, a little hard to decide. I'll stick to Seirios because it's a new song, but I think I like both songs equally.

^ @ Ayuta, I thought so too at first, but I searched and couldn't find one anywhere , which I find a little hard to believe as she seems to have a pretty decent amount of fans around here O.o...

But anyways, yeah I really like Seirios and Ryuukou as well...but god I'm so obsessed with Yume Akari .

Ahh! I'm waiting for my copy of Seirios to arrive... looks like it might take a while longer. I wanted to buy it at a store, but I couldn't find it. That's the only problem with being on an indie label!

What are your favorite Rurutia tracks in general? I really love Halleluia, the hard hitting guitar coupled with the violins and Rurutia's soft voice is just amazing to me!

I agree that Hallelujah is an amazing song! I also really like Pavane, Shiki, Opus, Ryuukou, Elements, Itoshigo yo, Oar, Hoshi no Tamashii, Michiru Mori, Träumerei, neo...the list goes on and on. Rurutia is one of my most favorite singers ..

I finally got Seirios yesterday! I have to say, I was concerned when I saw that some of the mini album tracks were on the album, but I shouldn't have been worried. RURUTIA makes it flow together as though those tracks were made for this album.

Seirios the song is an amazing album opener as usual, it grabs your attention right off the bat. The soft and fast paced verses of Silent Prayer are really awesome! I was surprised when it took on an upbeat sound for the chorus, in a good way of course. Opus fits in nicely (I wonder if the mini albums were sort of like maxi singles - both Opus and Hyousa made the cut). Aurora Hikkou has such a nice mysterious air and they lyrics contain truly beautiful imagery. Aurora Hikkou thankfully also breaks up Opus and Ryuukou, since they appeared together on a mini-album. Ryuukou has a nice poppy sound before leading into the love ballad Muyuuka. Muyuuka is nice, but one of her more forgettable songs in my opinion since it fits typical Jpop patterns. LAST DAY is a beautiful piano driven song, but falls in a similar category as Muyuuka for me. Hyousa was released before, but I still love it, the chorus really grabs me. Yume Hotaru is great with lots of layered sounds and again really beautiful imagery. The guitar bridge is nice too; very subtle. VOID makes use of a music box - it sounds great with good headphones, but it puts me to sleep on regular speakers! VOID sounds like it could have been the last track but we still have Hoshi to Hane which is a beautiful atmospheric track again using a music box and RURUTIA's layered vocals. I got a nice surprise when the piano came in though! I love the sound of a crackly record that is added to the track.

My favorite tracks are Seirios, Silent Prayer, Yume Hotaru, and Hoshi to Hane. (Excluding the 4 previously released tracks!)

Here's an interesting article posted over at NINGIN

Quote:
Unappreciated Artist Spotlight: RURUTIA

Multi-million dollar music videos, the hottest hairstyles and fashions, album covers shot by famous photographers. Amidst the buzz of all this in modern day J-Pop there lie artists whose music you have never heard. In fact, you’ve probably never even heard their names. One of those artists is RURUTIA.

Having debuted in 2001 with her single “Itoshigo Yo,” RURUTIA has remained strong as one of those rare artists that even though seldom people know about her, the ones who do will probably never forget her music. Some people might consider her a failure, while others see her as a “gem,” an artist lost in the quickly rushing current of promotional work released by more popular artists. It has never been confirmed as to why she has never received any promotional work, whether it be because of her extremely secretive image (nobody even knows her real name!), or whether she’s just selective when it comes to her fans. This question became more prominent when she decided to switch from the famous Toshiba EMI label which houses artists like Utada Hikaru and Shiina Ringo, to a completely unknown, and previously nonexistent indies label called “Pheorix Records.” The switch was explained by RURUTIA that she “did not have complete freedom” in her work, that it was too constraining and her music style was taking a change that she did not approve of.

Her music is constantly evolving, taking elements from every type of music whether it be classical, new age, electronica, or even rock and turning it into an all new unique melody that blends seamlessly. There’s nothing to be surprised about when hearing a dozen of instruments at once in her songs. Her music mostly retains what some might call “atmospheric,” and in many cases seems to shatter the border between imagery and sound. And the most surprising part is that she does everything herself. Composing, writing, and arranging music are just a few of the things she does, and she does them all with joy. In fact, she claims that making music is her “greatest joy of all.” And it shows.

Now what is an artist, with so much talent and originality, doing at the very bottom of the Oricon charts? Making new music of course! RURUTIA released her 7th full-length album “Seirios” on February 27th. She shows no signs of slowing down, releasing at a consistent rate of at least 1-2 albums or singles a year. For an artist with very little popularity, it’s quite a feat. Whether RURUTIA is your cup of tea or not, checking out her music could very well change the way you see music. Or, just maybe make you hate music altogether.

^That's great! I find it really funny that RURUTIA seems to get more attention from western J-pop fans than she does here in Japan. I was playing some of her music in the car, and my Japanese friend asked me who it was! When I said RURUTIA she looked at me like I was crazy and asked me how I'd found her...

I imagine that she doesn't do PVs anymore because she's on an independent label now and doesn't have the funding to do them.

It's a shame, but as long as she keeps bringing us good music, I can live without PVs.
