RIP Rev AKA James Owen Sullivan.

Heavy metal rocker, Jimmy Sullivan, “The Rev,” was found dead today. The official band Web site of Avenged Sevenfold released a statement concerning his death. Sullivan was only 28-years old. According to the L.A. Times, the group won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006.

The Avenged Sevenfold Web site statement reads, “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

As of right now, the cause of death is somewhat unclear. Sullivan was found dead at his Huntington Beach, California home around 1 p.m. Monday. Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo told The Orange County Register that he appeared to have died of natural causes. However, Crave Online notes that Sullivan had a record of hard drug abuse.

DrummerWorld states, “His first record was released when he was at the age of 18. He also has a side project with A7X guitarist Synyster Gates, as well as members from surf-punk band Ballistico, called Pinkly Smooth, in which he sings lead, instead of drumming.

Rasmussen Reports notes that only 10% of Americans rarely listen to music; which means most Americans are aware of the music community. Sullivan will be missed deeply by his heavy metal music fans. Twitter is going crazy with posts from heartbroken fans. One fan tweets, "RIP James Owen Sullivan, huge influence on my talent. The best die young." Another fans writes, "RIP James Owen Sullivan, you are such a great drummer and musician."

Sullivan’s death is another harsh reminder of numerous celebrity deaths this year such as Brittany Murphy, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett and, of course, Michael Jackson.
