Who Are The Pop Queens of Asia?
Who are the pop queens of Asia?
Like, who would be considered the Madonna of Japan, Korea, and China? |

I'd say:
Japan: Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro Korea: BoA, Hyori Lee China: Jolin Tsai? (I'm not too sure about this one - I think Japan and Korea beat China in the "pop diva" category by far.) |

I'd say Faye Wong is the Chinese Queen of Pop. I'm not really sure which they'd consider the Japanese one. It always seems to be changing. Namie used to be for sure, and Ayu was at some point as well, but I don't really know who they'd consider to be it at the moment.

Japan: Ayu, Hikki, Namie, maybe Kuu
Korea: BoA, that's all i can think of China/Taiwan: Faye Wong, Jolin (though there's many more talented vocal wise than her) i'll just add Amei cause she truly is a classic edit: though she's dead, but Teresa Teng is still remembered today, she really is such a classic, she was rather popular in Japan too, have anyone heard of her? she's in the top 100 something best selling artists and appeared on Kouhaku..or however you spell it..

As of right now?
I would say Korea: Lee Hyori. (THEIR IS NO WAY IT CAN BE BOA. Girls On Top was her worst selling of all time. & She hasn't released any new Korean material) China: Faye Wong (EVERY SINGLE CHINESE PERSON I KNOW LOVES HER. I'm not even a fan & I heard of her) Japan: Koda Kumi & Hikaru Utada (I WOULD HAVE SAID AYU a few years back but lets face it. Those are the TOP 2 CHICKS in Japan right now. PERIOD NO ONE isn't topping them.) Honorable Mention for Jpop : Namie Amuro & Ayumi Hamasaki

I don't understand. Koda Kumi is selling consistently OK, but compared to Namie's huge year in 2008 she's not doing well. However, I disagree with including people just cuz they're doing big now. Namie's fame came close, but never really matched that of Ayumi and Utada's at their peaks. And Kumi's never even come close to any of them. I'd say even BoA's peak was bigger than Kuu's.

i don't see how you can deny kumi is one of the queens of j-pop? maybe we have different definitions of what it is to be a queen then.
she's won award on top of award, broken records, she pretty much owned 2006 & 2007, she will be remembered for years to come and she probably won't be out of the business til she retires. |

UTADA HIKARU (AFTER THE QUEEN) NAMIE AMURO (AFTER THE QUEEN QUEEN xDD) CHINA: Sa Ding Ding ^^ (Jolin Tsai is from Taiwan................... O__o) KOREA: uhmm... no idea... I couldn't say BoA... because shes more popular in Japan than in Korea Last edited by taskinillusion; 5th November 2008 at 02:51 AM. Reason: Artist bashing |
