My stupid guess would be Mika Nakashima.
She's a natural beauty, and her songs .. are the second most I can relate to (next to Ayu, that holds first) .. her creativeness in music videos and background music blow me away cos I've never heard such beautiful music

I'd like to say that Namie would reclaim her throne so the speak, but I really don't see that happening. My best guess would have to be Utada Hikaru because she's already so famous. Lots of people like her music, she's a snazzy dresser (I like to think anyway), and without a doubt she's very pretty. IMHO, it would only be the natural thing. Anyway, I really hope Ayu doesn't retire too soon. She still has that star quality shining in her, and it seems like it's going to last for a while. Even when she stops singing, I hope she still stays involved in the business.

As much as I like her I can't see Namie getting back her past success. Hikki is huge of course and Mika could be, but I see them as being in a different category. The Jpop princess replacing Ayu should also have accessible fashion/commercial appeal; Hikki and Mika can look great but I feel voice/music are a much bigger part of their image than style ever will be. Somehow I don't see BoA or Aya becoming more popular than they already are. My best guess would be Ai, or someone new who'll stun us all with her grand debut.

Probably someone new who has yet to debut and will do so with a amazing album. The artists listed here have all been around here for a while and already have their select group of fans, I don't see them taking over Ayu's crown anytime.

I don't think any of those will...like some people have said it'll probably be an outstanding, amazing, debut artist. Lol.

ugh, Ai Otsuka definitely. She has a large fanbase which seems only to be growing. I can't say I'm a fan of her. Though she may write her music and compose/arrange it, I just don't enjoy it. Her material is either too childish or just boring to me =/ =\ I hope someone other than Ai Otsuka would succeed Ayu. I hope it's someone who hasn't come onto the scene yet.

I don't think Namie would get back the throne either. her generation is over. Ayu's would be too. Ai Ostuka seems to be getting really famous. But her music or looks doesn't seem to appeal to everyone. Utada is actually already very famous. But she doesn't seem to belong to the jpop princess catagory IMO. she's probably the talent music maker. i've never really heard Mika's music before, so no comment. Boa...don't think she can make it. she too international...japan n korea. as for aya, who is she?

Aya Matsuura is apart of the Hello Project.
She's cute, but it doesn't seem like girls in Japan really.. grow up in the music business. Like Ayu and Mika, they are in their 20's and seem really grown up and mature about music. However, I could be wrong. These days, I just can't listen to sugary bubble pop J-Music. Ugh.

Nobody actually. No one can replace Ayu for J-Pop princess.

The artists in the choices don't even sing pop. Namie? Mika? Hikki? Not pop.

i'm thinking ai otsuka coz the others are kinda past their peaks - and ai is very popular and her popularity's still on the rise, she still has room to mature her style and ppl love to identify with an artist's music maturing. she's my bet for next jpop princess
