Did you ever have an artist where you hated their vocals, but loved their music?

So, I've been downloading a bunch of things, and am taking forever to get around listening to all of it...but anyway...

I'm trying out a j-techno (I guess) artist called marino. I really, love her music. The backgrounds are really cute and interesting, they seem to have a lot of different styles that they have seemed to really wonderfully trasncribed into electropop.

So like for me, a lot of her tracks remind me of like acid jazz, mixed with music that could be used as the soundtrack for Katamari Damacy lol

The first track is an interlude...so when I listened to it, I was like "yes this is great"...

then the second song, she starts singing...and... She's got that cutesy japanese voice...which I just dislike with passion...

I think she sings in a higher pitch than ai otsuka...and cuter than ayu's girlish/honey tracks...which is just...not for me at all...So...I'm really disappointed...because I really like everything going on in the background...if only she just wouldn't sing! lol

Have any of you felt this way about an artist? Which ones?

PS. If you like...electropop, you may like marino! She kinda reminds me of like a cross between Perfume and Hello Project or something with a dash of r&b elements...but not really lol and you have been warned about the vocals~

i'm not much of a fan of miliyah kato's voice, but i love her music.

can this apply to a group too? i love 8eight, but when the rapper sings.. he has a really high voice and it's out of tune. it sounds disgusting.

Britney Spears. she sings with a really weird voice sometimes, like very babyish and annoying, but she has really catchy songs that make up for it

Good thread.

I feel that way about a lot of Ayu's older songs. Other aritists I'll have to think about that...

I just gave marino a try. The music is good. You're right about the voice though.

Ugh.

Britney Spears! Her voice can be so bad sometimes, especially when she "grunts"... omg. But her songs are all so awesome! <3

I was going to say the same thing. I really like the arrangements in Kana's music, but her voice is so high pitched and grating sometimes. It took me ages to get through Hebi Ichigo. (and now I love that song)

I really like Nana's voice. I can't stand it when she did Siren, I think that was the only time I didn't like her voice.

Personally, Ai Otsuka doesn't have a great voice but I LOVE her music.
Morning Musume and some other Hello!Project artists.
Shoko Nakagawa, that's a voice disaster...

I had the exact same experience with her XD! I totally couldn't take that voice either.

For me, most of the American pop I listen too I don't like the vocals, like, Britney Spears. But I love the music XD

That happened when I started listening to Ayu and Kana, but then I got accustomed to their singing voices
The same goes to some western rock bands

Britney Spears: Like in "Womanizer" she sounds baby-ish but also deep. Croaks too.
Rihanna: Only noticed when GGGB came out. "Umbrella" is a good example. Magazine~~
Shiina Ringo: I've gotten used to her voice somewhat. There are times I think my ears will bleed.
MEG: the decibels the vocoder can reach sometimes due to her poor singing
