I only know she has really good digital sales. And I think her covers are very popular.

^Yeah I know that too but I don't know why, what japanese people like from her, etc.

I don't see anything special, and she made a japanese song so I wonder if she can speak japanese cause her pronnunciation was good (Better than Celine Dion's lol)

She's not fluent but she has some knowledge of Japanese.
It's really hard to speak in the name of Japanese people, but I guess most people liked her covers after the success of Baby I Love You (with TEE).. success a la Soba ni iru ne (Thelma Aoyama). So it's a mix of good promotion, good timing, good pronunciation, nice sweet and mellow voice, r'n'b ish type of songs that Japanese teenagers eat up...
She also did the theme song for the 4th Umizaru movie, which is REALLY popular in Japan. And now, she's doing good again with the theme song Happiness for popular J-drama Dear Sister.

Yeah, she understands simple phrases and stuff. I watched one of her live chat sessions on TwitCasting a couple of weeks back, and she had to ask her friend to translate messages as well as how to express certain things.

I've never understood the rationale behind taking a singer and throwing them into another country where they don't speak the language and trying to make them a career out of it. She's had a couple of hits, but I don't really see her having much staying power.
