ive been reading reviews and looking at posts, and hardly anybody loves Rainbow. why why why?! its her best album! (imo) it has such beautiful music (Free and easy, HANABI, WE WISH) all the songs make yu visualize something. its so beautiful. its better than (miss) understood. (miss) understood is weird....the violens and stuff....so why does everybody dislike it?

i actually have heard quite the opposite O_o
Maybe its just that most songs that are pretty good in the album are just average compared to her many other songs.
(how does Miss Understood talk about violence?)

Because she uses too much english in bland dance music....aka real me, everywhere nowhere, etc. It's a step in the wrong direction from I am..

The only good songs on there were Free & Easy, Heartplace, HANABI (somewhat) and imo Dolls.

RAINBOW is my favorite album! The cover art (water, rainbow colors) portrays the music itself beautifully. It's a refreshing, beauitful, and powerful album of Ayu's. And I totally don't mind the English. It brings us non-Japanese ppl closer to Ayu! LOL. Well anyway the music and styles are excellent in this album. I like every song on it!

HANABI i my favorite song on the album.
And probably my 2nd most favourite Ayumi Hamasaki song.
That album was also the first album i had 'physically'. (as in 'bought'//was a gift)
I think people dislike it because it lacked "RAINBOW"(song). I admit i was a little pissed when i found out it wasn't on the album... but it's a great album.

i dont really like RAINBOW as compared to others because the songs were not really fantastic.. and very little featured songs... i feel that songs like Over.. so crappy.. Heartplace is rather noisy.. etc

RAINBOW was my first intro to ayu's music and to this day I still like it. To me, It’s one of her best albums. The variety, the lyrics, the arrangements, and the artwork are all just totally awesome! To me her worst album was I am... I know alot of people liked it but I didn't. Although I did like evolution, Dearest, and Naturally.

The top two reasons I've heard:

her english
her vibrato

I've actually come under the impression that people either LOVE RAINBOW or HATE it. a lot of people on this forum do agree that it is her worst album after ASFXX, i like it though, i've actually just started to listen to the songs more, I think its one of her albums in which all of the songs really contribute to the mood of the entire album. I don't mind the english, even though i can't understand it, and i don't really notice the vibrato unless im REALLY paying attention to her vocals.

i also think that RAINBOW was a turning point in ayus career, not really affecting her, but her fans, Ive heard alot of people say that they either stopped or started listening to Ayu with this album...

Well, I used to hate it too, but now I love it ^_^ Almost my favourite album (but then of course, almost all her albums are my favourite ^_^)

I think the major problem was the lack of structure and too many ballads/english use. There is like, a fault in the album every 3 tracks, so a lot of people cannot live through the whole CD and therefor think it's horrible as a whole. There are some of Ayu's discography treasures in there! (voyage, hanabi, heartplace, july 1st) so we know it's not all bad. If there was more structure in the album like I am... or MY STORY, then people would given it more credit. Also due to so many tours and everything, I think her vocals kinda shut out which destroyed a lot of songs. They were perfect during Duty, it's a good thing she took a break and regained then (or reach her vocal-peak) the next year ^_^

Some horrible songs in it though I can never stand... WE WISH (way too repetitive/long), Free & Easy (horrible arrangement-have no idea why it is a single), Dolls (*dies*) and somewhat Over (I like 5 seconds of the song...). The other tracks right after it redeem it more or less though.
