The Official Pimp Your Artist Thread

This thread is meant to educate people on the different musicians out there that are not well known or mainstream.

Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor is a singer-songwriter and pianist. Born in Moscow in 1980, she moved with her family to the Bronx, New York, at age nine. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centering around New York City's East Village.

Spektor's idiosyncratic songs generally take the form of character studies and are thus much like short stories in song. Regina states that she has composed hundreds of songs but she rarely writes any of them down. Unlike the work of many singer-songwriters, they are not usually autobiographical but are based on scenarios drawn from her imagination. Regina recently said, however, that on Begin to Hope she herself is more of a character in some songs.

Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re

Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re (つしまみれ, TSMMR) is a Japanese all girl trio - blending elements of punk, avant garde, free jazz, ska, surf and funk. This highest energy rookie of BENTEN Label Tokyo will be another favorite bands of music lovers in the world. They are one of the many bands to have become famous in the United States through the Austin, Texas South by Southwest music festival.

"TSU SHI MA MI RE" was formed in 1999 when Mari, Yayoi and Mizue were still University Students. The three began performing in clubs in Chiba prefecture and released their 1st demo CD "HAMBURGER SET" in 2001, which was followed by another demo CD "BLOODY MOHAWK". In 2004 the band toured across the United States with fellow all-girl bands BLEACH, NOODLES and Kokeshi Dolls, including a stop at the world-famous music event, South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Their debut album was released from BENTEN TOKYO that summer.

I'm falling in love with her too. I've listened to some of her songs and she reminds me of Fiona. Chemo Limo is my favorite song so far <3

Regina is creepy. I have one song, 20 Years Of Snow I think. "STARE AT YOUR BOOOOOOOOOOOTTTSS".

I shall pimp out...

Girls Aloud

They're the most brilliant girl group ever. Loads of commercial success and critical acclaim, with thirteen top 10 hit singles in the British charts (including two number one singles) and four hit albums (including a number one album). For a modern pop group, they have received unprecedented praise from broadsheet newspapers and the rock music press, with publications including the Observer, and the NME giving rave reviews to their music.

They also have a fair share of detractors, like the radio stations who refuse to play their music. Why? Probably because their music is too fun and poppy. Despite that, all their singles have gone Top 10. Girls Aloud make pure pop music with a big dose of creativity and sincerity. All their songs sound warm and lovely. They're perfect, nothing else can describe them.

However, they are confined to the UK and Ireland, with occasional releases in Australia. A hidden treasure. Try them. Now.

EMI HINOUCHI

A young R&B artist, with some Crystal Kay flavor in her music, but with a teen-age young-&-fresh vocal.
Under the label of Takahashi Taku (m-flo), Tachytelic Records, recently released her debut album "Dramatiques".
Her fame started with the m-flo loves single, Summer Time Love, which also features Ryohei.

I'm kinda intrigued by Betty Curse too. Saw one of her videos and I like her look. Don't know much else about her apart from her website got a good review in The Sun (which is a bit random!)

Boomkat

[YT] Boomkat - what U do 2 Me
[YT] Boomkat - The Wreckoning
Boomkat @ wiki

Boomkat is Taryn Manning & her brother. They're urban/eletronic music. Taryn is also a sorta-famous actress who has acted in supporting roles in big files like "8 mile" & "Hustle & Flow". unfortunately Boomkat is disbanded & withouth a label at the moment , but Taryn is said to have a solo album in the works.
I like Taryns voice & look a lot , and I liked their album. I really hope Taryn will be able to launch a more succesful singing career as a solo-artist in the future.

Ryan Adams. My friends in love with him and his ever changing style.

Chara, an Indie artist in Japan. This video and song is cute. I love her voice. It's smokey and child like.

Under the Influence of Giants is a band you guys should listen to. They have this 70's disco rock feel to them.

Almost forgot:

Emilie Simon. I think a lot more people here would like her out of the artist I posted. She's more along the lines of Bjork. Her style is very fresh and original. Her videos and lives are also really intresting to watch, if you look into any artist I'd hope you'd look into her some.
