She is asleep, because it was a very exhausting time for her back then.
I hate to watch her like this. It hurts! ;.;

She really worked hard back in 1999-2000, often not sleeping for a few days at a time. Naturally, when she did sleep she'd have been almost impossible to wake.

After 10 years she's better used to it (she seems to run on 2-4 hours sleep a night these days) but it's not really natural and very very difficult to train your body into being able to run on that little rest.....

yeah, she looks and sounds totally exhausted. atleast her body is used to the stress of her job now, even though it's still unhealthy.

Exhaustion. Her work load must've been very new and overwhelming to her back in the day. Can't rule out that she was going through a rough time emotionally either.
