All the Japanese articles I've read have stated that a date has not been set, so until I hear otherwise from Ayu or avex I'm classifying this as a rumor.

ayu n mannie are said to go back to LA this afternoon and will be back to Japan on 4th Jan, not sure with mannie or not..

and wow..all those international news awesome!

Since the AFP is the only news source saying they will be married this month, I think there's a possibility that it's a translation error. Otherwise, well, it is sudden...

I wonder why she's back in LA? Would they be planning to register the marriage there or in Japan?

It's likely a mistranslation error. I'm sure Ayu would have said something like "And the wedding is soon!" in her TA message if it was this month.
