Ayu is one of the richest female pop stars
The Richest website made a list of the richest female pop stars back in August. Ayumi Hamasaki is the only singer that's not American in the list and she's placed above singers such as Beyoncé, Mariah or Janet. The richest female pop star is not surprising since it's the one and only Madonna.
Here's the complete list: 1) Madonna — Net Worth: $1.1 billion 2) Barbra Streisand — Net Worth: $650 million 3) Celine Dion — Net Worth: $600 million 4) Britney Spears — Net Worth: $500 million 5) Cher — Net Worth: $450 million 6) Ayumi Hamasaki — Net Worth: $400 million Ayumi is a Japanese singer, model, songwriter and actress, even though she’s not well-known in the Western world. She’s been dubbed the Empress of J-Pop and she’s worth a lot of money. Like Lady Gaga, Ayumi is constantly modifying and adapting her image. She controls her image and brand with an iron fist and is always conscious of what’s she doing and wearing. Her style choices have started fashion trends in Japan. She’s experienced her share of popularity and a subsequent decline in the mid-2000s before soaring in popularity again. Her performances are lavish and a great spectacle. She’s released a steady set of albums since 1999. All told she’s worth roughly $400 million. 7) Beyoncé — Net Worth: $390 million 8) Tina Turner — Net Worth: $350 million 9) Mariah Carey — Net Worth: $250 million 10) Janet Jackson — Net Worth: $160 million http://www.therichest.com/expensive-...tars/?view=all Get those yens queen!!!

Not this number again. They do not give any sources for it, so there's no reason to believe it is accurate. This number has been circulating for years and there has never been a credible source.
Also, I find it highly unlikely that Ayu has made more money than Beyonce, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey. |

^ They are not talking about money made... they are talking about worth which is two different things.
It is all possible for ayumi to be worth more then those if she invested her money wisely thoughtout hr career. |

And also if she didn't spent as much as the others. Considering that Ayu had every year a tour with MANY dates and that artists earn most from concerts and merchandise it's possible. I guess that's the reason why Britney is 4th. She had her Circus tour, her Femme Fatale tour and now Vegas show.

Yeah that list has to be fake, because Mariah Carey has a net worth over 500 million....

As cool as it would be to say, there's no way Ayu is wealthier than Beyonce.

Well one thing to think about is how artists make most of their money from touring and ayu has toured every single year since her debut, not to mention the CDLs. This is basically unheard of for American artists.

But as far as I know, touring works differently in Japan. Actually, the record company is making most of the money, cause of contracts in most cases. I don`t know exactly, somebody over at JPC forum made a great post about it. I just know that it`s not the same in both places.

I know, I'm kind of hoping it's true. XD I can't help but think the idea of her being worth way more money than some of those people to be awesome.
![]() If she truly is worth that much, it's easy to say she's freakin worked her butt of for it! |

Maybe this is a reason the general public dislikes ayu. I think Japan is a society that is very business-driven and they see ayu as greedy. I think they believe she has amassed so much money and continues to work so she is thought of as "why does she continue to bother"? I don't think Japanese in general believe in pursuing "passions" so maybe there is a disconnect as to why ayu continues to do what she does. It is not that she wishes to continue growing her fortune as much as it is the fact that she truly loves doing what she does more than any amount of money could ever bring her satisfaction.
