Which album has the best lyrics?

We know Ayu writes some of the best lyrics but she has released 15 albums and 50 singles; there are ton to be some works that stand out more to you, so which one?

For me, it was a really close call among LOVEppears, Duty and MY STORY, but eventually I decided that to me, LOVEppears was the album that had the best lyrics. Why? Take a look at these snippets:

"As long as I don't care about anymore
I'll have some fun as the seasons change around me"

- WHATEVER

"I searched for a pair of sunglasses
So I could lose all the colors"

- monochrome

"We will surely be happy for the sake of being happy
We were born to live like this
If you listen carefully you can hear it
The shout hidden inside the prayer"

- immature

To me, LOVEppears is the album that has melancholy in the happiest lyrics and in contrast to the seemingly one-dimensional lyrics in her newer works, the lyrics make you think a lot and most of them aren't as direct as they seem - I appreciate that a lot and it reveals a really painful and raw side that's easy to overlook.

Duty has excellent lyrics but I felt most of the songs had a really angry feel to it, and while that isn't bad, I feel it lacked something multi-dimensional. MY STORY was an album I loved so much due to the whole theme and the lyrics were great too, but it was an autobiography imo and it really reflected the Ayu in 2004/2005. It's good but I think LOVEppears edged it a little bit with the extra pain hidden inside

What's yours?

Memorial address

Mainly because of Because of You, HANABI ~episode II~, forgiveness and Memorial address (take 2 version). I can hella relate to those songs the most; so in my eyes that album has the most poignant lyrics. A Song for XX as a whole album is a very close second however.

"I was born alone. I'll go on living alone.
I thought that surely that kind of life is appropriate."
A Song for XX

"While you know that you'll be scattered sometime,
even if you're stepped on you're still proud.
What kind of strength do you need
to grow straight and tall?"
Hana

"The spring wind rolls by, it draws a far off dream.
The break in the summer clouds disappeared.
The autumn sky is painful, the winter sea is cold
The more I fall into a trance the more time passes."
YOU

"Can I cry as much as I want to? Until my tears wither away.
The white snow flows and muffles my tears.
Please help me."
POWDER SNOW

"Everyone has their wounds,
but sometimes kindness
soaks in. It hurts a lot;
so much that they being to cry."
For My Dear

Definitely A Song for XX for me! The whole album is just full of raw emotions and while I can relate to a few of her songs in these recent years, I related so much to this album.
The anxieties of growing up, the fear of holding onto a dream...She captured all those feelings in this album.

For me, A song for XX, Loveppears and Duty are the ones with the best lyrics.
My reason is because somehow they had more impact on me than any other album.

I was born alone. I will go on being alone
I thought that living this way was truly normal
- A Song for xx

Even while knowing that you will wilt someday
You grow beautiful so you will be loved
Reaching out and growing straight
Just what kind of courage is needed to do that?
- Hana

Can I scream in a loud voice? Until my voice dries up
For now, the white snow will forgive everything, right?
Can I cry if I want to? Until my tears dry up
Can I scream in a loud voice? Until my voice dries up
- POWDER SNOW

The happiness seen in dreams
Is the best until we capture it
Because after we have gotten it
We’re plagued with the fear of losing it
- For My Dear…

---------------------------------------------------------

Everyone has one or two things
Which they wish they could forget
But what they cannot forget
Is the pain of knowing that they cannot afford to forget
- reminds me

Others call it interesting and ridiculous
How we were together
No matter how understanding anyone looks
As they talk about us
Yes, the two of us cannot be understood by anyone else
- Return Road

Why do your eyes look so sad, yet you force yourself
To show me a look of excitement?
Why do you try your best to hold strong,
Telling me that you’re ok?

Why do you always shoulder everything
On your own, suffering alone?
Why do you take all the blame for this
Saying it’s all your fault?
- Tell me why

That thing which they call love
Just where can I find it?
What does it look like?
How much do I need to pay?
Hey, where did you buy it?
- the next LOVE

---------------------------------------------------------

I want to turn into a bird, ride on the wind towards that place
To the other side with neither pain nor love
- FLOWER

The god of fortune laughs
At our endless foolishness
- Mad World

I’m no longer frightened of anything
And that’s the only thing that really frightens me
- Breakdown

Why do we think that hurting others
And putting the blame on them
Will heal our own wounds?
Or is this era to blame?
- TODAY
