What if Ayu pulled a Hikki? =D

To clarify, what if Ayu decided to release an American album? I know this couldn't happen, for many reasons. The most important being that she has her little engrish going on and isn't exactly fluent with our language.

But..if she suddenly became able, do you think it would hurt or help her career? I wasn't exactly impressed with Hikki's EXODUS..but Ayu isn't RnB, she's pop, so...

Also..do you think she is aware of fact that she has so many fans that are from the U.S. (or other countries outside of Asia) for that matter?

Ummmmm I think it would sell well just like Utada, but I think it would deffinately be copying her. IF that were to happen, Ayu could use a few years to learn English.

I think Americans would just view Ayumi as a Britney Spears/Madonna ripoff who can't sing -.- (boy am I optimistic) I doubt that her music would be taken well... she might be successful if she releases songs that are in the style of Real Me, Ourselves, and Inspire. Her lyrics would also have to be along the lines of Real Me -.-* I personally feel that Hikaru was Japan's best chance of having one of their artists becoming very popular in the US. Since it doesn't seem like it's happening (it might, but doubtful for now), I don't have high expectations for Ayumi.

I think, like you said, if suddenly the English fairy smacked her on the head and made her fluent, she could have a CHANCE. But I think it would be rather slim. Many people I know that I've had listen to Ayu don't like her voice, so I think that would be one of the main factors right there.

I think I'd be frighten if I heard somebody singing, "A WOMAN COULD BE LIKE A NUN!" in the hall at school. XD

Thinking about it...I would say english isn't her best bet..but also it probably wouldn't turn out too good either if she released a japanese album in america. Which wouldn't..happen..anyway. Everyone here knows that you need a certain taste in music to enjoy Ayu. And we all have it.

You all bring up good points. I wanted to see what the general opinion was.

I think her only chance would've been during the Duty/I Am... days when her voice was still at it's peak.

are you serious... it wouldnt happen ??? i know what TM/nami/L ARC have done isnt much but its a (start) they have release in the U.S under Tofu if i'm not wrong their japanese releases... i see in the future more Tofu making it biger in the U.S than hikki...

.. what hikki has release in the u.s is something you see always on Tv
i'm not saying ayu would make it big in the u.s with a japanese release... but its not impossible.. if sony japanese singers can do it under tofu.. there still hope in the future for other j-labels artist.... i also know what tofu have done its nothing big.... but its a start

And I wonder, would she do a 180 like Hikki and change her musical style? Would Ayu go pop, rock, dance, or what if she crossed over?

I don't think the quality of her voice would be an issue. I've heard a lot of people say Madonna can't really sing, but look at the career she has had so far! I think...well honestly, I think she would do ok as long as she didn't use that high pitched piercing voice, because the moment people heard that, they would turn her off.

But, I think she could only have a chance at success if she marketed a LOT, unlike Hikki has.
