Could Startin' Be A Cover?

Now Startin' isnt exacly a common tite for a song but on Yesasia i saw this - http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept...id-1003163456/

i havent heard the song [if anyone has it please upload] but is it possible they have the same tune/lyrics

When the songs are released almost at the same time and things are like they are in this case, I think I'd be best to look upon them as different "original" versions (english/Japanese).

I don't think it's a cover...just because they have the same song title doesn't mean Ayu's covering it.

Plus she was working with GEO, so those songs can't be considered "sampling" (from what I can recall, "sampling" is when an artist uses another artist's music without permission...? I don't know, I just remember Will Smith/P. Diddy did that a lot

Sampling is when only a portion of the music is used and integrated into a new song (rap artists do this a lot, repeating the sample for a beat) These samples must be used with permission or else a legal fight could follow.

In Ayumi's case, she uses the entire song and just sings her own lyrics. In Japan, this constitutes a cover. Even though the lyrics aren't the same as the original, the music still is.

It's definetly not sampling, but diden't ayumi release her versions first? Then she would not be the one making the cover, regardless who wrote the melody. But when songs are released this close to each other, it just feels wrong to "label" one as a "cover artist". Same thing happened to dragostea din tei, two identical songs appeared at the same time, but I woulden't consider any of them covers. The maeken trance project one would be considered a cover thoguh.

Rainy day, pride, bold & Delicious and rainy day are no covers.. they were created by GEO. He just gave the songs to two different artist for them to use for their own release.. Just like "Kumo" (memorial address) =) And since Startin' is the main track for the 39th single, there's a VERY VERY rare chance that it's a cover... Besides; it's composed by Kazuhara Hiro (same as criminal and STEP you)....

Same title doesn't mean the same music! And like Rody! said, it's composed by Kazuhiro Hara so I doubt it's a cover.

&&also what other songs besides In The Corner are originally sung by Jade from Sweetbox? I thought it was just In the corner!

"alterna" and "A Song for XX" are unusual titles....."Startin'" isn't.

They are unavailable. The only one available is In the Corner. What happened was that Geo gave Ayumi a CD of songs for her to choose and she liked the tune and wrote lyrics to them. Bold And Delicious in English...Pride in English...yes the Geo songs are in English.

no. SWEETBOX is NOT covering ayu. SWEETBOX had the songs first. GEO gave ayu the demo tape with jade's voice to ayu, it's ayu who like the songs, so GEO gave permission for ayu to sing. ayu is the one who's covering the songs.
