Something to think about.

When most people in this forum evaluate Ayumi's concert they consider the visual aspect of the concert as a major evaluation factor. When this part is usually lacking most people complain and find the concert "unspectacular" or "boring".

Does this really mean Ayu's music can't stand on its own merit well enough without the gloss and glam to back it up?

If so, are you fans just really in love with Ayu's image and what she represents and not really her music?

^well I know for sure that it´s not "the gloss and glam" that is backing her music up and definitely not only her image that I love ayu ^^

I don't think it's really that, it's just people love finding things to complain and be unsatisfied about. I'm into her for her music, I've known about Ayu for almost 3 years know, and I haven't watched any concerts. Whether I see her prancing around stage, or just listen to the song, it doesn't make a difference to me.

^ She's totally right. Some of my favourite live performances are simple and without and glam. I haven't watched any concerts, only small clips and I've been a fan of hers since 2002. People just enjoy finding faults as Eevee has mentioned and are hard to please.

Like, "What do you think of her new song?"

Everytime you'll find someone with each song "Oh well, I can't stand the way they pronounce the 2nd word in the chorus after her vibrato, which also wasn't too great. Her last single was better." ..And to one's surprise, they probably chopped it up with chriticism about that one too when it first came out.

I think that since ayumi started the glam shows that's what many people are expecting. And often when people don't get what they expect they are unsatisfied.

Well...When i watch a concert..I kinda want to see what Ayu visualizes in the song...what she thinks of it...
You know..it's just kinda fun...Like a story..
She's singing about her, or a person, and it a concert or performance, she somewhat brings that to life with her imagination. If the song makes her want to dance, i'd like to see her bring it out.
I love Ayu as a person, and i Love her music, so it evens it out.
But that's just my case.

Oh man. I know how you feel. I am usually almost afraid to view the Chat Room when a new release comes out since either there will be a flame war between those who loved the song and who hated it or else there will be a group which will dissected it into parts which they hated or were disappointed about and then go on and on about how they loved the older releases or how they'll stop liking Ayu and listen to other artists. I think fans sometimes expect Ayu too much instead of being happy and enjoying a release. Same thing goes for promotional videos.. how she's releasing recycled themes and how they're boring and so on and on..

LOL The worst thing is actually seeing the same people saying that another song (from another artist they love so much, that's rather simillar to the one ayu released and has the same flaws, if not more) ROCKS!

Well... I must say I like concerts with rich choreography but it's not the most important thing when I watching AYU performances. I think when choreography is interesting watching of show is much enjoyable and let to better empathy with song than when we see AYU in t-shirt and jeanses. However I'm turn my attention on whole part so if vocal is poor even the best choreography didn't make satisfaction. The best exemple is ARENA TOUR 2002 - choreography is really good but vocally it's probably the worse AYU concert...

I agree. To me, that always comes across as most peoples deciding factor about whether a concert is good or not. Not me though. All the extra glitz is nice and entertaining, but I ultimately judge based on how the performance is. And not just the performance vocally, but the emotional resonance of the performance and how well the message she is trying to portray gets across. What I mean is, something could have relatively poor vocals, but the subject matter of the song and how much Ayu gets into it, almost negates any bad vocals for me.

I think people put way to much value into the costumes, sets, etc.

if i wanted to just have good music i'd listen to a cd. why watch a concert if you dont think the 'watching' part of it is good? imo, live music isnt better than studio-recorded music so theres no reason to listen.

if her vocals were perfect and she cried, but wore the same thing the whole time, yes. i would call it boring.
