Question [2006] Quick Monochrome question

Blimey, after lurking around here for a while I'm actually making a post! Call the men in white coats - I must be stopped!

Anyways, I just wanted to clarify something about the song Monochrome. It's a terrific song - I loves it, I do! But basically everywhere I've found an MP3 of it (including here), it abruptly cuts out at around 4:22.

Can I confirm that it's actually meant to do that? It seems a bit weird, but if it happens on every single MP3 I've found (and even on a MIDI!) then maybe it's just the way the song goes.

I'd appreciate any enlightenment. Thanks in advance. Oh, and a pleasure to meet you all!

Yes, it is meant to cut off. I have the A single that it is featured on.

Anyway, welcome to AHS

The last lyric has her lying to herself, saying "i'm so strong" when the lyrics up to that point prove that she's as fragile as anyone else... so the song interrupts her mid-word.

Oooh, while where here. What's the difference between the single and album versions? Maybe the mp3's which I downloaded are just taken from the album (I haven't bought either yet I love LOVEppears so I really should get it >_<) but they sound exactly the same to me o.o

They are both the same, the only different thing canbe heard on the Instrumental version where you can listen to the part right after it was cut off...

A man throwing something, saying "You're Great!" (thanks to the ones that told me about this) and leaving the studio by closing the door.

Oh cool! Thanks

Btw, I thought it was 'yeah, right'... which would make more sense, but it does sound closer to 'your great'...

^Yeah, I'm sure that he says "Yeah, right!", as if he doesn't believe Ayu when she says "I'm so strong."

When "monochrome" was put into the album, one idea was added to -- to cut off the music just after the last phrase, suggesting the opposite meaning. I think it shows straight which was her real intention.

la la la la la la i...
It's ok so I agreed.
la la la la la la...
Because I'm so strong.

*Yeah, right!*
The person that she's singing to doesn't believe her...

The mix IS a little bit different... if you listen to both intros back to back, the album version intro sounds a little more... metallic, i guess? A bit more dynamic sounding. The album version's instruments have a bit more depth to them, and one background synth instrument is moved more to the foreground. So it's not just the end that's different... the volume of the instruments relative to each other has changed, and there are a few effects added. I like the album mix better, it sounds a bit more finished IMHO.

They were also mixed by different people... Dave Ford mixed the single version, Dave Way mixed the album version.

Well I'll be a blue-nosed gopher! Replies!

Many big thanks to everyone for their input. Nice to know that Monochrome really does end that way, and it's not all some conspiracy against me LOL. Also good to see that, in what I thought would be a simple 1 question = 1 answer thread, it's actually spawned... dare I say it... discussion! Ah I must be a chosen one, there could be great things from this boy.

Well thanks again everyone, I appreciate all your help. I think I might like it here.

^ I think a lot of people used to think something was wrong with their mp3s/CDs when they heard monochrome. I actually didn't know too much behind the sudden cutoff until this thread ^^;; Thanks for all the explanations everyone.

I'm glad other people noticed the difference between the single and album versions. There synth keys during the middle eight (break, bridge, interlude whatever you want to call it) are far higher in the mix and makes the whole thing a lot more dramatic.
